Nice, quiet, family-oriented.

I lived here for 4 years with 2 other female roommates - we are all professional school students - and my experience was overall positive. Rent was a burden for use because we are poor students, but the fact that heat was included in the rent and the plowing was phenomenal really helped make up for it. We lived in one of the un-rennovated units which had some shabby elements to it, and several times we had pipes freeze and leak from the cold, however maintenance was always johnny-on-the-spot, even when it happened at 11 at night.
I was a resident when the rape occurred several years ago, though I was out of town. I don't know about the immediate response of the management, however, when I came back there were extra locks and a saftey bar added to my downstairs windows and sliding glass door. They also hired real police (not rent-a-cops) to patrol the community at night. I often come home quite late at night and I always see the police car either taking a break at the community center or circling the community.
There's lots of green space and hard top with careful drivers for kids to play and this seems to be a community that's very family oriented.
My one complaint is that I also lived above the maintenance facility, apparently over the break room. During the day I could hear the facilities crew clear as day through the holes in the floor for the pipes of the hot water heater (the closet is in the living room), also though they are not supposed to, especially in winter the workers would smoke down there and it would come up through the air vents in our house. I complained several times, but I don't think the management really had control over what happened down there. My recommendation would be to avoid the unit over maintenance, and you're golden.
If I had to do it again, I'd probably live somewhere cheaper, only because life as a student is not a wealthy one, however, this has been a very positive living experience overall. I've always felt safe, my neighbors are nice (and quiet) and the kitchen is spacious (cooking with 2 roomates requires a spacious kitchen).
