Years at this apartment:
2003

I lived here in 2000 for a year, then moved out, and came back in 2003. The first time we had a three bedroom which faced a grassy, tree-filled courtyard (building 6). It was very quiet. Unfortunately, they cut down those trees and put another building there. The apartment we're in now (building 5) faces the parking lot, and there's often a lot of noise coming from the lot.
As for the interior noise, sometimes you can hear the water running from other apartments, but overally it's pretty quiet. We had a guy upstairs using a treadmill, which was really annoying, but we've never heard a neighbor's tv or stereo or anything like that.
One thing you can say about the management is they seem interested in improving the place. Unfortunately, that means there's always a lot of work going on. Somehow, they seem to be really slow. For example, they re-did the hallways a year or two ago, and now they do look nice, but it meant they were in a shambles for a long time.
Parking is usually pretty good -- I'm surprised to read all the general complaints. I often come home late at night, and have always easily found a spot -- unless there's snow. The other complaints about the snow are right -- the management is terribly slow to clear it away. And, if you have an apartment which faces the lot, when the trucks finally do come by, it seems like they've gone out of their way to get the noisiest trucks possible.
We really haven't dealt with the management much. We haven't had too many problems, but we also must say, we're kind of pessimistic by nature. We really don't expect much from the management, so some problems, we just live with. The few times we have called on management, they've been helpful.
One terrible problem we had early on was that sewage backed up into the apartment. We have one of the three bedrooms, which has a laundry room in the apartment, but we use the building laundry room anyway, and use the apartment laundry room for storage. Stuff came in through the laundry hookup, and it was disgusting. We cleaned it up ourselves and, at first, didn't even bother to complain. But the smell lingered. When we finally did complain, the management was responsive -- they came in with a machine that managed to clean the air pretty well. I guess we should have complained earlier. But, they still didn't exactly apologize or offer us any discount for the trouble or anything.
The laundry is convenient, the machines usually work, and you can add money to the card 24 hours a day, though you have to go to the management office to do it. It costs more than it should --$2.00 for a wash and $1.50 for the drier, but at least there are usually machines available.
Our neighbors are not great. Some of them have this weird insistence on blocking the doors open. Also the cigarette smoking near the doors is annoying -- both the smell and the butts. And a lot of our neighbors seem to like to leave dirty shoes and other things in the hallways.
The apartment itself is pretty nice, really. The balconies are nice, though, again, much nicer if they look out on something besides the parking lot. One thing we really don't like, though -- and a primary reason we're moving out -- is that only one bedroom in the three bedroom apartment has an air conditioner. There's also one in the living room. Neither air conditioner works very well, either.
The microwave in the apartment is ancient and weak. The refrigerator and stove are fine, and the dishwasher works well.
It is true that the management wants 60 days notice to move out. Kind of ridiculous.
Sounds like a lot of complaints, but, again, the main thing is the apartment itself, and we've found it mostly quiet, well-constructed, and comfortable.
I'd say to check other options, but it's not a bad place to live. Recommended, but not very strongly.
