I've lived in building 2 for a little over 2 years and am moving out shortly. The biggest upsides: Good looks, good construction quality. Although there was no seriously major faults with the place, there are a lot of things that are faulty and annoying. My biggest problem is the lack of finding parking spots. Lately, I have not really been out late so haven't run into that problem lately, but when I used to come home late or early morning finding parking were a nightmare. With snow, you better not even think about coming late as I'm pretty sure you won't find a space. This was one of my biggest pet peeves. If i wanted to have to search for parking, I would've lived in Boston. The other problem I have is it is somewhat on the pricy side for what you get. I really feel it could be 100 or 200 cheaper at least. Then I feel that it would be a decent deal. Noise level was a nightmare the first year as the people above me had a baby that never seemed to stop crying and I could hear it in my bedroom (think it was directly above me). I believe this is attributed to the fact that they don't use padding under the floor in the closets as it seems the noise typically can be heard travelling through the closet cielings and floors. You will hear stuff like your neighbors' alarm clocks and stuff. Overall, though, the noise level wasn't awful, but please take into consideration I'm a heavy sleeper so maybe I'm not the best person to comment on this. Another problem is that I found a cockroach in the bathroom. Granted that was only once, but I kept the bathroom light constantly on as to keep anymore from coming in as I think it probably came from the vents. Other than that, I've only seen one, but it did freak me out. The a/c unit in mine needed some major upgrading as it eventually cooled off the place, but it took some time to be quite honest and never made it cool, just not uncomfortably hot and muggy anymore. For utilites: You can only go through paradise or comcast for cable and high speed internet. Both are quite terrible in my opinion. Comcast seems really overpriced and paradise is very well priced but I stopped the service once it seemed that the service was down about half the times and this is not an exaggeration. Unless they fixed the problems with Paradise(if it still exists since we only had it the first few months we were here) you're better off with comcast. For phone, you're stuck with Verizon, but I can't say anything too bad about Verizon. The worst part about the utilities was the electric bill. You go through NSTAR which quite frankly is terrible. My electricity bill the first year was good, but seemed to get higher. This is no fault of the apartment's as I believe Woburn is required to go through NSTAR, but just a little thing to consider. At the same time my dad paid a little more per month to power a three bedroom, two floor house with 5 people living in in it. Also, I wish they'd maintain the roads more, people will open their doors on your car, someone tried to steal my gas lid from my car, and I've seen peoples' wheels stolen and their cars placed on cinder blocks a few times. I hate saying the next thing, but one thing to consider is the people living here. There seems to be some people that are not what you'd want to be living with. You can hear domestic arguments once in a while and things of that nature. Not to stereotype, but some of the people seem like they might be state housing people. Construction's another thing to consider. Who knows when they'll be done. It's definately a major inconvenience as they take away parking spots, create noise, and probably ruin the roads from all the semis coming in. I feel bad for the people who own all of Kimball Courts, because with the softening rental market it will be years before they recoop the millions they spent to build Kimball Woods. On a side note, I started laughing when I heard the "starting prices" of Kimball Woods. 1490 for a single bedroom or 2000 for a 2 bedroom! Anyone who's willing to pay this instead of buy a place is not thinking clearly. To put those numbers in perspective, you can buy a 300,000.00 dollar condo with nothing down and have a mortgage INCLUDING condo fees and taxes for around $2,000.00 (I know this because I do mortgages all the time). Luckily I haven't dealt with management much, but they seemed a little unresponsive and lackadaisical when I did need them. With all the problems I've listed it might seem like a nightmare living here, but keep in mind I gave you a very thorough list and every place has its problems. I lived here for three years and it wasn't bad enough for me to leave during that time, but I would've if I didn't have to put up with the hassles of moving. It is not unlivable, but I feel there are better deals out there. Please keep in mind the rental market is softening now so take this into consideration when you look at places. For price or deals, you might want to consider a house or apartment from a multi-unit house that a landlord's trying to rent out. They're usually just average joes and usually have a mortgage out on that place so they don't want to leave it vacant. The people at large apartment complexes can afford to let their units sit and sit until a taker comes across. Very little willingness to negotiate. If you have any questions, let me know.
