Still a bad choice

When I read reviews like that posted on 9/27/2005, I have to chuckle. I laugh not because I disagree, or doubt the person (quite the contrary), but because I had a very similar experience when I lived at Pheasant Ridge a few years back.
Back when I lived at Pheasant Ridge, I had numerous maintenance hassles, constant attitude from both the office manager and the owner ranging from apathy to total rudeness, constant contention for the very sparse laundry facilities (which were often out of order), noise issues, those nasty (and huge) millipedes were everywhere, the pool was not monitored so all sorts of riffraff who did not even live in the complex would show up, just to name a few of the issues I dealt with on a regular basis.
The final straw was when the owner turned up the pressure on the tenants to switch over to her lousy in-house "satellite cable/Internet" service by sending out a memo explaining that AT&T cable/Internet (now Comcast) would not be allowed on the premises to perform new installs or service EXISTING CUSTOMERS. I called the office and was very vocal in explaining how I felt this was unfair. The response was to switch over to their service or tough luck. Since its not actually legal for a landlord to block access to utilities, I called AT&T and made a complaint against the owner of Pheasant Ridge. Less then a week later, I was issued a 'thirty day notice to quit" (aka eviction notice) giving me thirty days to find a new apartment and vacate the premises. When I attempted to contact the office to hear their explanation for the eviction notice, they refused to speak about it, and instead told me to contact the law firm that had issued the notice, acting as if the owner had nothing to do with the notice.
At the time, this was a lot of grief (finding a new apartment, moving, etc. all in under thirty days is no picnic). In the end, it worked out well, because I finally got out of that dump and moved on to someplace better.
Anyways, I drive by Pheasant Ridge on the way to work nearly every day and it still looks like a dump, and from reading the other reviews it sounds like the owner is still pulling the same shady tricks.
Avoiding Pheasant Ridge is still very sound advice.
PS:
as a result of this whole fiasco with Pheasant Ridge(unfortunately learned a bit too late) I learning quite a bit about my rights as a tenant. There are some very useful links on the Massachusetts state web site:
http://www.lawlib.state.ma.us/landlord.html
http://www.massbar.org/lawhelp/legal_info/'sw=31 section on eviction and something called retaliation (where your landlord essentially punishes you for asserting any of your legal rights, its highly illegal) would have been very useful to me at the time. So if you want to protect yourself, be an informed renter, read the above links.
