Not worth the price

Years at this apartment: 1998 - 2001
I lived here for three years, and it turned into a rather miserable experience. The staff and maintenance crew do work hard, I?ll give them that. The grounds are attractive in summer, and the walkways are properly shoveled and sanded in winter. But the buildings themselves need renovating. Windows are poorly insulated, if at all. You can feel the cold air streaming in during winter. Expect to pay upwards of $100 per month for heat. Appliances and kitchen cabinets were installed sometime during the Nixon Administration. The walls and ceilings are paper thin, every sound from every other apartment can be clearly heard causing sleeping difficulties on occasion. The parking situation is atrocious. Not to have one assigned space for an apartment you pay over $1,000 a month for is ridiculous. I would constantly have to park at the pool, and then walk past many cars of which I knew were visitors. Very aggravating when it?s raining out and you have a load of groceries to bring in. And the winters are worse. Some tenants would never move their cars for months at a time, so after a snowstorm, plows could never properly clean the lots, and you?d have to climb over snowbanks until March. Just little things that take down your quality of life.
The pool is good, the three days of the year it?s open. If management can?t find a lifeguard for the day(often), or if the lifeguard doesn?t show(often), they close the pool. I only used the gym once, a few treadmills, a few bikes, a Universal set, nothing special.
Security and lighting in the parking lot is lacking. Obviously, since my vehicle was stolen right out of the lot.
A growing percentage of residents are Indian Hindus, who I found(and this is MY opinion) to be rude and discourteous on many occasion. By discourteous, I mean blaring indian music and movies late at night, and many times 24/7, screaming kids riding bikes in the hallways, and not to mention a couple of one or two bedrooms which appeared to house extended families consisting of 8-10 people at times. The smell of curry could peel the paint off the walls sometimes. Somewhat humorous that even they find their beloved curry?s lingering effects bad enough to leave their trash in the hallway until they are good and ready to make the trek to the dumpster.
Overall, the staff is trying their best to provide adequate housing. Kudos to the maintenace crew, I could never deal with the bs that they do.
Rent is very overpriced, especially in the current economy. Although better than some of the other complexes in the area, Westgate leaves a lot to be desired in an apartment community.
