It was one thing when the apartments were $xxx and included utilities. Now they've jacked the rent up to pay for the crappy renovations, and switched to no utilities included.
That's pretty normal for most places, no utilities, but most places aren't such -------- like this one.
Our "renovated" apartment didn't get new windows, they're the same old, DRAFTY windows that have always been there.
One of the "renovated" window frames (maybe it wasn't even renovated, maybe that's how it's always been) wasn't even flush against the wall, leaving a good 1/4" of open space for wind to come in.
The hot water heater that you have to pay electricity for doesn't work for ----. It's rare that you can get a hot shower, and you definately can not get a hot bath.
The baseboard heaters are JUNK. In our first 25 days paying for utilities we used about 3000 kWh of electricity (for a 1 bedroom). That's a $400 electric bill on top of the jacked up rent. JUST TO STAY SLIGHTLY WARM! (yes, slightly warm, because the baseboard heaters are junk! they don't do ----! and it doesn't help with the drafty windows).
The bathroom and kitchen are COLD, no heat gets to them. The bathroom ceiling fan actually blows in a cold draft also.
There are other issues as well but these are the biggest.
We can't wait to get the hell out of here.
Maybe I should mention that before they moved everyone into their own, pay-for-utility apartments, management refused to turn on the heat. Completely illegal to do as they were responsible for maintaining heat to 65 degrees according to the health codes. They are ------- lucky that I did not report them. My lawyer would have owned their asses.

Did you ever think about how awful it was a few years ago? Maybe that is why the rent was so cheap - nothing ever got fixed - EVER - there was drugs, prostitution, crime, homeless people everywhere. Crappy renovations? Everything is getting updated. They gave everyone the opportunity to move before the renovations began, and even gave us a heads up that the rents would be more market rate. If you find a better deals, it's in main south or the suburbs! I've been lookign around too, only because i am switching schools, and i haven't found anything with utilities included. it seems to be the trend for landlords. if you paid attention to rising costs of utilities, eespecially electricity, then you would understand why the bill is so high. i had a drafty window too, and i told the office about it, made an appointment to get it switched out (i had to move things away fromthe window), and now i don't have any problems. i know, from living there so long, that there are many older tenants who just complain to each other instead of the office. then when they are ready to explode, take it out on the office. maybe if you told them what you needed changed in a nice way, yuo'd get it done. it's always worked for me. in the old apartrments, tehy gave us a lot of time to choose a new apartment before the cold weather even came around. it sounds like your own fault for procrastinating. i think what you wrote was an unfair review, and i think it's better if you communicate your problems to them, because b****ing about it on here dosn't solve anything. i'm sure it makes you feel better, but maybe you should move to main south. i was there my 2nd yr at clark, and it seems that it would be more in your budget.
