Okay, I've lived here for going on 8 years. I took a chance moving in because I loved the huge 15 ft balcony windows, the well priced rent and the large apt sizes. I haven't really regreted it.
**Neighbors--They are harmless. There are kids here so BIG suprise you'll see them around. They play on the grounds and occassionally (big shock with this one) they even sit in groups together.. (my goodness call the police) Also the community is mostly 1st generation immigrants and UMCP college/grad students. Alot of people's complaints seem to be towards ethnic groups. Maybe if people would stop being race-centric and prejudiced they'd "FEEL" alot safer.
**Safety--I have never felt that my life or person was threatened. EVER. I come home late (all times of the day and night) and have never been accosted or approached. True, there are a few men who like to take in a beautiful woman and you may get asked out more than once by different guys, but I don't think one should feel unsafe because of it.
**Maintenance--they do their job. they are understaffed and sometimes have trouble keeping up, but they always get to it within 24 hours. They leave a note when you're not there and when it's a real emergency they are there in minutes (since most of them live in the bldgs!)
**Office Staff--This I will agree on. There are some rude b** there, but if you ask to speak to the Property Manager Dan directly, you'll get the respect and professionalism you're looking for.
**Parking--Of course Visitors can park overnight. Maybe people should pay attention. There is designated visitor parking spaces. Visitors can stay for 3 consecutive days. Anythign longer, you need a special permit from the front office.
They could add some lighting, but it's never bothered me.
**Rodents/Cockroaches--Like any apt. they do have issues. However, you can get them to send out pest control every week if you like until it's under control in your apartment. I had a little problem with roaches when I first moved in, but they got it under control.
**Air- you control heat and air all year. No waiting for the apt company to 'turn it on'. Best thing ever!!
**Rent-doesn't go up more than 20-30$ a year... they usually give you about 13 and a half months on a 1 year lease agreement rent price.
**Pets--the official policy is 1 small pet per apt., but maintenance and the front office turn a blind eye to violations (ie having a pet and not paying rent for it, having multiple small animals in 1 apartment, etc..)
