Grew up in this building and watched it go down hill.

I can truly say that over the years I watched Presidential Towers go from a high end high rise to a low-class community. I was raised in this building during the early 80s and my family moved out around 2006. Initially the staff was great, the maintenance was decent and the building was always well kept. When the building turned condo, things changed for the worse. There was a constant turnover in staff, the one good maintenance guy (Calvin) was a pleasure to deal with, but other than him...it became nearly impossible to get repairs. Yes, our condo fee was paid, and that was the chief complaint of my mother, that she paid her condo fee and never saw anything in return. Luckily she had a friend who was able to fix things around the house. Our roach problem was out of control, and yes, my mother keeps a spotless house, but when you live in an infested building, it's impossible to have a roach-free apartment no matter how much you clean. Clearly the exterminators didn't properly treat the building. We never had problems with rodents, but roaches were ridiculous. The elevators began smelling of urine, stains on the carpet in the halls, car theft on the parking lot became a usual occurence. They were poorly insulated units. We had an end unit and we had to put up plastic weathering materials and tape up the windows during the winter months, with towels placed on the tracks of the windows and at the floor to stop the cold air. Electrical outlets often sparked and maintenace was notified more than once about it but was slow to fix. It's unfortunate for the people that do pay their condo fees to have to live in a building much like a housing project. My mother was fortunate enough to sell her unit, but she did take a loss. Although she had invested in numerous upgrades and the apartment was fabulous inside, the upkeep of the building (or lack thereof) resulted in her taking a loss. I actually have pictures of what Presidential Towers looked like over the years, and it's so sad that a property once so beautiful and well kept has turned into the dumps. So funny someone would say that all of this is because people don't pay their condo fees! lol If management was really doing their job, perhaps they would have been able to enforce the condo fees to those that didn't pay. It's easy to blame the tenants, but it begins with management. I now have a condo in Arlington in a building that is probably twice as old as Presidential Towers. I have never seen a roach (which was a concern of mine), the staff of 4 people (2 maintenance people) are able to maintain a high rise tower, a mid rise tower, and at least 40 buildings with no problem. The grounds are well kept, free of insects and rodents,no stains or urine in the halls or elevators. I'm pretty sure it's some people in my building that haven't paid their fees, but management is on point. Presidential Towers only saving grace is its location, and the size of the units. Other than that.....it could stand to be levelled. Hopefully that woman (who wrote her review) and her husband will be able to get out soon!

Thank you so much for backing me. I wish everybody could read our posts before they moved into this place. It's so bad here now, it's to the point where they had to contract an outside company to help them collect condo fees. But they still don't realize that people are not going to pay them their hard earned money to live in filth. They could at least be doing repairs to the building(to make it seem like they are trying to fix this place up)while they are trying to collect condo fees. But they have yet to do any work to up grade this place. Unfortunately me and my family are still here but we expect to be out by the end of the year.
