I have lived at Watergate for over a year now. I cant think of one reason why i wouldnt recomend it to friends or family. The location and the views are great. Its has alot of activities for adults and more importantly, the kids. I have a 6 year old daughter who loves spending her weekends with dad there. The staff has been more than pleasent to deal with and for one or two times i had to call on them, the response was grea.

Mixed bag. Yes the location is great but the maintenance is erratic. I complained about poor air conditioning waited a week then tried again and the maintenance people finally came and implied I had allowed the system to burn out by running it when it was not working properly. Although generally the maintenance men are great and professional. The office staff can be short tempered and nasty. Giving out cards that don't work. Not programming your name into the entry call box for months. Not granting your pass entry to the fitness room despite your request. Watch out for the newly renovated apartments: One dishwasher fell out of the wall on a first use. Selected electrical outlets regularly don't work after a renovation. Sliding shower doors go off track the first week. Cupboard doors come off the hinges in three months because the screw size was wrong. The cable outlets are not active in all rooms. Three outlets but only two will work and you have to pay the cable company to connect the third. They change the rules all the time. The number of animals, the number of parking spaces. And there are apartment inspections about every month on one excuse or another. This is not easy to deal with if you have asensitive animal. And give you less than 24 hours notice. They claim to be animal friendly but would rather put in a putting green that no one uses rather than a small fenced dog park area. They will spend money on things that will attract tenants but not on services. The manager loves to send harrassing notices and letters. These are know as "Nasty Grams" and will certainly raise you blood pressure after a tough day at the office.
And then those beautiful views? The windows are drafty. You can't come within three feet of the windows all winter because of the chill. Factor that in when you consider the size of the rooms. The heating systems. One unit per apartment. Right now the gas for heat is included -- no extra charge at least in the high rises. But the systems go on and off all the time and a light sleeper will find that you are awakened constantly. And the farther a room is from the heating (and airconditioning) unit the less likely it will get the benefit. Second and third bedrooms feel as if they have little or no heat or airconditioning. Some tenants camp out in their living rooms in the coldest and hottest days to get full benefit of the system.
Lost your laundry pass --costs way too much for a replacement. Lose your building pass-- again a big charge. No recognition in your dealings with management that it might be good to encourage longer term tenants with some breaks at least in the plastic cards after the first year...to save the cost of repainting etc the apartments. I am looking for another place. Just needed to know where the next job was going to be.
