Great place to live - read this after reading the bad reviews here.

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2008
Contrary to what some have said, I have never heard noise from the fire station. There is not constant car noise. No one drives around the parking lot at random, blasting their stereo. The gate is meant as a deterrent, not Fort Knox security, and while quirky, it does operate correctly most of the time.
I have had zero problems with noise. There was a little noise in the apartment above mine but it was from a party and they warned me about it and even invited me over. I didn t go but I had no trouble going to sleep.
I have never had any trouble with the staff. They have been prompt when returning calls and have always been available in person at the leasing office. Their attitudes are polite and helpful. The maintenance manager is very polite and helpful as well. He has responded to my needs, what few they are, very quickly.
I have never had a problem with ants. The windows are double insulated and all the inner moldings, trim, vents, etc are free from visible cracks or entrances.
I have never had a problem with corporate management or billing services. I ve sent my rent the day before or even the day it was due. The check gets cashed and everything is cool. Our lease even says we have a 5 day grace period, although Westwinds probably prefers that they receive the rent 5 days after it s due, not that it s postmarked 5 days after.
If you cannot say that living at Westwinds has been the 2 worst years of your life. The first year had to be okay, because if it wasn t why in the world would you stay'
The grounds are not nasty at all. They are well kept and the grass is well trimmed. The only thing I ve seen is grass clippings left on the sidewalks, but that isn t really a problem to me. There are not cigarette butts lying around, there are not piles of trash all over the place. There are occasionally some piles of dog crap around but most people are responsible for their pets. I always see people carrying around little plastic bags for their dogs. Westwinds even has bag dispensers posted in the courtyard.
For the record, at least one of the leasing office employees is very attractive.
There are some children running around unsupervised but this is actually a pleasant surprise. I have noticed them causing any trouble or vandalizing anything. They are not disrespectful. They wave or say hello and in the case of my roommate and me, who throw a football around in the courtyard from time to time, the kids even ask if they can play with us. It s nice to see kids out running around instead of sitting inside rotting their brains watching TV and playing Halo. As far as children wanting to pet or play with your dog when you walk it, that comes with the territory. Kids love dogs. Don t take it out if you don t want attention from kids.
Interiors are outdated but in good shape. I one problem with water leakage from the apartment above mine but maintenance came the day of and begin repairs.
Heat and air conditioning work fine. I am on the bottom floor, so keeping the place at 70 when it s 35 outside is tough, but I ve found that keeping it at 65 and wearing a sweatshirt makes a huge difference. The unit seems well insulated and maintains 65 much better than 70.
Parking right in front of your unit is sometimes hard to do after 9:00 PM on weekdays, 6-7:00 PM on weekends, but there are spots farther away. Weekends can get a little crowded and I have had to park in the leasing office visitor spots before, but only at night when they re not open.
$1400 gets you a double master suite unit. The two bedrooms are located on opposite sides of the apartment, connected by the kitchen and living areas. The rooms themselves are the same size, the only difference is that the master bedroom has a walk-in closet and the bathroom is inside the room whereas the other bedroom has a regular rectangular wall closet and the bathroom serves as the community bathroom. Besides the bedroom closets, there is a linen closet with shelves by the community bathroom, and two most closets outside the master bedroom; one of which is about 3.5 wide and 4 deep, while the other is 3 wide and 5.5 deep. Elsewhere, especially in the newer constructions of Annapolis, $1400 may get you a studio unit, 1 bedroom if you re lucky.
I am 25 years old. I don t have a problem going to sleep. I don t have a problem with children or music or some noise here and there. My neighbors have a dog with a horrible bark but they trained it well because it doesn t cause any problems. I don t really know any of my neighbors but they are generally friendly. The staff is available when needed and return calls promptly. Most of the tenants in the units around me are in the 20 s and 30 s, and I think that is the demographic this complex is best for. If you are elderly, or if you are generally needy and/or grumpy, don t rent here. If you are in your 20 s or 30 s, or even 40 s and don t have any kids, and you re independent and not bothering but the general buzz of the world turning around you, then this place is for you.
