Nice apartments but very very noisy

"I took 2 stars off because of the noise. I really should take 3 off but that would take away from the apartment as a whole. It is a nice place. The problem I have is a serious amount of noise. The walls the ceiling don't seem to have any insulation. I can hear every single step and every flow of the toilet, shower, kitchen sink, washing machine, or dish washer. When the occupants upstairs walk it makes a deep bass sound that's enough to give you a headache. Management offered to move us to another unit but I know for sure that will not make a difference. Unless, of course, they made other units better than this one we live in. I doubt it. They said if I break the lease to move I will have to pay rent here until they find someone to rent the apartment we live in. Neglecting, of course: (Maryland Code, Real Property, Section 2-115, 8-204) "...the tenant is entitled to "quiet enjoyment" of the premises.""

You're thoughts on apartment living are ridicules. If you live in a townhome, or any house for that matter you can hear the water running from upstairs, ect. It's an apartment! A single building with 6 to 12 "homes" in it.
You have to expect that.
Sorry to say, but you may what to look for a single family home...
And by the way"quiet enjoyment" has nothing to do with circumstantial noises like water running, people talking, ect. The wall's are 2*4's and a little insulation. Anything better and it wouldnt be an apartment.

I would hate to live near you! lol...
You sound like the old man next door that ------- and even has called the cops for watching my tv at a reasonable level ( i live in baltimore city now...) one good thing is the cops wont come anymore for him...lol
when you live in an apartment or townhome you expect noise and if a shower going in another apartment gave you headaches maybe a shack in the woods may be right for you!

I agree with anonymous above. I'm not a complainer, but I certainly feel his pain. The walls are thin and the construction is cheap here. This is my fourth apartment complex, not to mention 3 dorms prior to and I've never heard as much noise as I've heard here from the floor above. Not to mention, this is the most that I've ever paid to live in an apartment. Quality counts and it's certainly appreciated. Unfortunately, this is not a normal situation and I understand that it's the building construction and not my neighbor.

I just wanted to say that obviously the original rater "Anonymous" is not a lawyer or has ever taken a property law class. "Quiet Enjoyment" has nothing to do with noise or sound. Quiet enjoyment only means that no other person will claim they own the house/apartment and evict you. It just means that you will be able to live there without another person kicking you out because they have better title. So before you quote or try to use law, maybe look up the definition or actually look at the Statute...

The fools talking about noise are simple idiots. You cannot tell me that the noise was okay in your opinions. You did not live there. You did not have to leave the apartment to walk outside just so you wouldn't get a headache. The apartment construction is terrible. I am not the only one that complained about it being too noisy. I can handle some noise but not what I experienced there. One day when I was there in the office talking about the noise problem with management another lady called to complain and the woman in the office who talked to her laughed at her when she hung up. Cambridge is disgusting and you are disgusting for backing them in any way. ---No I am not a lawyer and I guess I was wrong about that. There really is no law to help in my case... at that time anyhow. Landlords have the right to simply ignore you. Maybe cadjamie is one of those arrogant landlords.
