Unfortunately, this place has been getting progressively worse over the two years I've lived here. I am looking forward to moving out next month. While I was pleased with what I found when I first signed my lease in 2005, I realize now that I should have looked elsewhere for a good place.
Since living here, the staff (office and maintenance) has changed so many times that I hardly recognize anyone anymore. There is, I believe, one person who was here when I moved in. The turnover rate is indeed staggering. What this means for the resident is that there is paltry service of any kind. It takes many calls to get maintenance to fix anything. I've been lucky; I haven't had too many or serious problems, but I know people who've waited weeks for things to be repaired. There are a couple minor things that I complained about (several times) that I'm *still* waiting to be fixed. Since I'm moving out soon, I've ceased to care, though I'll note them in my final report to the management. However, I've complained about my dying AC unit at least twice, and yet as I type, I am listening to what are probably its death throes. In 90 degree weather, no less. Last year the front door to the building was replaced, and after the crew left, I noticed they had left a ton of broken glass and glass sherds both inside and outside the door. I had to carry my 50-pound dog outside because it wasn't safe for her to walk across the threshold. *That* problem wasn't resolved for over a day, and finally the residents in the building got fed up and cleaned it up ourselves. It also took 4 days for the staff to replace the entry light, which is a major safety concern. The office staff are not generally the nicest or most competent people. Among other things, they "had no record of receiving" (i.e. "lost") my form that I had turned in over a month earlier indicating my intention to move out. I had to bring my copy of the form to them for proof that I had indeed indicated I was not renewing my lease, and because this situation was discovered and remedied a couple days *after* their deadline, they tried to make me pay a late fee!!! Even though I had turned in the form a month *early*. The only friendly, though scattered, office staff member left about a month ago, so there's no one in the office now with whom I'd care to deal.
The age of the buildings is starting to show, and not much is being done to renovate or repair the exteriors. I am in a unit in the "ghetto" part of Canterbury (Paula Place)...where most of the "pet friendly" buildings are. Just this week an attempt has been made to "beautify" the landscaping by planting shrubs and trees near the building entrances, but generally this part of the apartment complex is the most run-down and ignored. The garbage collectors do a crummy job, as every week there is trash left on the ground and the dumpsters are left outside the corrals, not neatly put back like in the main part of the complex. There is also a problem with people not picking up after their pets. Both my neighbor and I are very conscientious about picking up after our dogs, but not everyone is, and the management, for all their pompous ranting and warnings, do nothing to crack down on the miscreants. I wouldn't be surprised, however, if sometime soon, the management did and then one lousy person will cause the management to decide not to allow pets in the apartments at all.
Other problems that probably exist at other apartment complexes exist here too: mice and ant infestations, poor noise insulation, and insufficient parking if you have more than one car per apartment. However, these just add to the already problematic aspects of this apartment complex, rather than being the main deterrants.
I say, look elsewhere!

Couldn't agree more...I lived here 7 years and I know the pain...only reason I am living here is the bus stop from here to my wife's work. Also they stopped taking any Fedex/UPS etc on behalf of the residents. Even on exceptional case, you request them - they won't accept it. How painful it is. So if you have package coming, you need to stay at home or pick up from location may be 20-30 miles far. Accepting package on behalf of resident is bare minimum service you can expect..
