Good downtown location, bad building

For the high cost, you're not getting much. They have good security which is absolutely necessary if you're going to live downtown. The elevator smells like dog urine. The staff can be helpful, though some of their policies are ridiculous. Water, AC, heat, fire alarm system, etc. broke down several times though. They will charge you for any and every single thing they can which I'm sure is illegal if not unethical. Some of the residents are extremely rude. The younger graduate student types get drunk pretty frequently and are obnoxious. The older professionals are extremely ---- and haughty, so don't think about sitting in the lobby or using the elliptical machine for more than 30 minutes. You will get an earful from these miserable, lonely middle-aged people. Maintenance staff helpful, but very grumpy. Any time I had a problem, they acted as if they were doing me some huge favor. Also, constant construction so it is often unsightly and loud. Street noise crystal clear as the building is poorly insulated. The front of the building is often frequented by homeless people. This is also a high crime area like any part of downtown Baltimore. If you must live in the city and you can afford the huge rent and utilites, this may be the place for you. There are certainly nicer apartments around, though they are a bit more expensive and generally full because people are happy there. One note: many of the similar buildings that I looked at clearly had clearly had rodent infestations. I have never had that problem here. Parking is very expensive.
