I moved here from the NW last month. I came out for work and knew that I wanted a loft-style space in an urban environment and I needed to sign a lease the day I arrived. I talked to the leasing office here several times over the course of a couple of weeks and they were great to me. They were straight up and honest with me about everything, including the downtown neighborhood, city noise, the power bills, the lease, the parking, the deposits. I told them I'd read the reviews and they told me this is an urban environment, the power bills ARE high in this city, and that they do their best to work with people. They didn't try to skirt any question I asked. I described what I was looking for and they told me they had something perfect for me. They took pictures of the place and emailed them and it was exactly what I was looking for and a good price, too. They worked with me to put me in contact with all of the resources I needed and said that if I wasn't happy with the place when I arrived, I could select another apartment. When I arrived, I'll admit that I was nervous that it would all fall apart, but the place is BETTER than I expected. I'm in one of the Eutaw flats - it's beautiful with exposed brick, 12-ft ceilings, hardwood floors, new appliances, cherry cabinets, central air, washer-dryer, 3 storage closets plus one huge walk-in closet, and tons of electrical outlets. It's actually much quieter here than it was in my $$$ downtown Seattle condo. My neighbors are quiet, too. My power bill was reasonable. If you're a city person and you know it (you've lived in a busy urban area before and liked it), you'll love this place. The management has been incredibly friendly and helpful. The neighborhood is fine - you just have to be smart. I have a car, but I ride the MTA to work and that's fine, too. No problems. Not scary. The parking garage is easy and the guards there are also friendly. I know some people have bad experiences, but if you're on this site looking, it's because you want to know what the place is really like. Typically, when people are happy, they don't go out of their way to post reviews.. they just go about their convenient lives. I wanted to put in my two cents for the record. This place is great. I have no complaints at all.

Sounds about right on the front end... The "first impression" here is actually pretty impressive, for the most part - and if you don't live in the Tower. Give it about 6 months and then see how it goes. Even then, all might be well... but just wait 'til it's time to move out and see how the security deposit mess goes down. It will sour this great opinion of yours - as it did mine.

So, I posted this original post shortly after I moved in. I lived there over a year and then moved out to a house in an outlyig neighborhood. I have to say that I still stand by my original post. The management was awesome to me the entire time I lived there. I had no problems with a security deposit. I've lived in a lot of apartments all across the country and I have to tell you that I've never had any of these terrible experiences people describe. I read my lease and ask lots of questions and I don't get surprises. I'd still be living there if I didn't have pets that need a yard.
