Yo!

A great inner city apartment complex.

You are living in a high rise apartment complex in the inner city. Remember' I didn't read all of the reviews but I think some of you people have some unreal expectations of budgeted apartment life in the big city. I've lived in places that were horrendous, Charles Towers, while not perfect is really a very nice place to live. I've lived in seven different apartments or apartment complexs in as many years. I tend to place more emphasis on cost over looks in apartments. I'd give the place a 7 out of 10.

- Pretty good location, but its on the edge of the hood. Everything east of you closes at like 6pm and has metal security screens. That tells you something about the area. A 5 minute walk to the inner harbor. Great places to eat or grab a drink on Charles St. Grab a cab for the train station, Fels Point, or Federal Hill (4-6 bucks for any of them). Cabs are always on Charles St, but there is some waiting later at night.

- Management is okay, I hardly had any dealings with them. You can pay your rent on credit card so get a airline miles credit card, after a year or so you have free airfare for vacation.

- I haven't had real problems with the maintenance staff. I've been courteous to them and their response has been at least adequate. Expecting more than that doesn't mean they suck, it means they are at best standard. I've never had anyone give me a same hour response for a late night heat/AC or electricity request at any apartment complex.

- The air conditioning comes on later than anyone would like. Welcome to living in ANY apartment complex. Its free though, I've had places where I paid the electric and had the same problems.

- The kitchen and bathroom were a bit dated, but the renovated rooms looked really nice. If you get a one bedroom place, plan on eating out a lot, the kitchen is almost too small to be really functional.

- Rats and mice' To assume that any maintenance group is going to be able to kill every rat that gets into a building's trash room or underground parking lot is not only unlikely but also unreasonable. I've never seen a cockroach or a mouse in the whole place. I think some people have some unrealistic expectations of living in the city. Could they do better' Sure. The only time I've seen a rat is in the parking garage (brown level). I see lots of them if I walk to Federal Hill or Fels Point (welcome to the city).

- The common areas are clean and pretty neatly kept. The only graffitti I've seen is from people who write in the elevator how lousy a place they think CT is. (Stop writing on the walls, a**holes)

- The mail room is well maintained and junk mail isn't all over the floor and flowing out of your box. Other places I've lived have been downright filthy.

- The washers and dryers are newer and do a good job on your clothes, but for a complex that size there should be twice as many of them. Prices for wash loads for both were pretty standard. There's a lady in the new shopping complex that does dry cleaning for a decent price.

- It is extremely noisy from outside at times. I don't see a strong police presence but you sure do hear them. I never heard a peep from my neighbors on either side of me.
- The desk attendants either mind their own business and leave me alone or are perfectly nice.

- The parking garage is extremely overpriced. The elevator and escalator in the garage don't work and probably has been that way since the 70's. If you're trying to save money, there are outdoor lots nearby. Females should would want to be wary of this option if they need to do a lot of coming and going at night. In a year and a half I never had my car broken into and I only saw one car near CT with a broken window. It was a daily occurance in other cities I've lived in.

- Security could be better. Entering and exiting the building seems fairly secure, but the stairwells in the underground parking lot are common hangouts for homeless people in the winter (again welcome to the city). Debris and the smell of urine is common in the remote garage stairways. There really should be a roaming security guard monitoring these areas. If you're that much of a wuss and fear for your safety in an area or situation like this, you need to take precautions of your own, either don't go there or a can of mace. Either that or don't live in the city.

- There's a hospital two blocks away, good luck getting timely emergency service though from an inner city hospital.

Thats a fair review, for a pretty nice place to live. And I have no relation whatsoever to the management of the building.
