A beautiful (exterior) downtown setting. Unfortunatley the building is plagued by problems caused by the rude and incompetent property managers.
Not only is managing a building of this size (or any, probably) beyond their ability, but they are rude, they yell, and they lie. The general property manager in particular does not like to receive legitimate complaints or be questioned about her lying and inability to resolve problems. If you do, you will be screamed at as she has two tones a) condescending lecture and b) scream.
The insides of the individual apartments are okay, common apartment interiors. Unfortunately there are major problems with the elevators, pipes, hot water and heat delivery systems, the air conditioning, the windows, and the fire alarm system.
Elevators break down a lot and they won't fix them on weekends (too expensive to do so). Hot water goes out a lot and they won't fix that on weekends either (you should be happy with lukewarm). Fire alarms go off frequently. Usually they are false alarms, but sometimes they are caused by electrical and other fires in the poorly maintained basement. Oh, and sprinklers go off without reason as well. Entire floors have been flooded without so much as an apology by the managers of the building. They certainly won't take responsibility.
The building is in the middle of one of the worse construction zones in the city. Expect to be awakened at 6 a.m. by noise outside your (thin, flimsy) windows. Sometimes it goes as late as 10:30 at night.
The quality of tenant has gone down in the past year and it shows. More "neighbors" are noisy college kids who like to have loud, noisy parties. Good luck with getting management to do anything about it. They really don't care.
This was an okay building when I first moved into it two years ago, but it's gotten worse. The renovation construction was supposed to be done soon after I moved in, but it goes on to this day (will that Super Fresh ever open' I doubt it).
Southern Management also insists on raising their already high rents beyond market price. And this despite the fact that new buildings are going up all the time (fortunatley many not run by Southern Management). Baltimore has a glut of apartments and they don't realize that. Fortunately my lease is up at the end of October and I'm happily out of here!
