I moved to Tharles towers last year site unseen from california for graduate school. Of course I came on here and read all the horrible reviews and had second thoughts but I wanted to write a review that didn't dwell on all the negative things about this place because I have not really had any of these problems people have been talking about and I am very picky and will be the first to complain about things if they are bad. I was worried about safety and needed to be close to public transportation since I wasn't going to have a car and for the price of living in a secure building and the size of my 1 bedroom apartment (over 700 sq ft) it definitely is one of the best deals and I was able to get into an apartment relatively easily compared to some trouble I had with other apartment buildings in the mt. vernon/downtown area. Yes, it is an older building so you get the quirks that come with that. The windows are drafty which is one of the complaints but since utilities are included in rent I just turn on my heater and that takes care of that, but hopefully they will be changing the windows soom to cut down on energy consumption with global warming and all. When I moved in the venetian blinds were horrible and all bent in odd directions and some were even missing but all I did was complain about it and they came in the next day and put in brand new vertical blinds which I love. They are quick with maintenence requests they will even pick up your cardboard for you and I had a ton every week from buying furniture. The front desk and general staff are very friendly and greet you hello which I find very nice and are always happy to help with any troubles and I love that they recieve packages and sign for you because I am never home for deliveries and I am an avid online shopper. I find the leasing team to be very polite whenever you have questions about things as well. I have never had hot water problems like some people have said in their reviews that may be on an apartment basis because I do have a friend in another apartment that says he has hot water pressure issues sometimes as well. I have never seen a rouch or rat in my apartment as some of these reviews have eluded to, so I've kept a look out and have not had one sighting (maybe those people are just dirty) but they do have pest control come around every so often to spray. Yes there is construction going on if not in the building around the building but honestly it's a downtown area people are always fixing streets and things and really Baltimore is an old city they are always fixing things everywhere if you haven't noticed so if you don't like the noise you really should live in the suburbs. I don't mind the noise and to this buildings credit I can never ever ever hear my neighbors at all (although in bathroom you can sometimes here conversations through the vent which I find kind of funny) My 9 months living here have been great. It's an awesome area with a short walk to the inner harbor or a short walk in the other direction to mt. vernon restaurants and night life and I find Charles street to be a very safe street that I walk at night by myself every once in awhile and have not had a problem. I would completely renew my lease here after it's up but I would like to get a dog so I will move out but other than that I recommend living here if you want downtown living at a reasonable price.

Not surprising that the review compliments the staff, because it, like the other positive review was likely written by a member of the staff...
