I've lived here for almost 2 years and there are things I love about Charles Towers and of course things that could use some improvements. I'll do my best to be honest:
Pros:
- Front desk and maintance staff are amazing- I am always greeted with a warm smile and hello when I come home and my maintance concerns are always addressed in a timely fashion. I have always felt extremely safe when I'm home. As a young single woman I believe it is important to be and feel safe when you're home- Charles Towers has certainly met this priority.
- The location can't be beat- Having the grocery store, dry cleaner, pizza place, and liquor store at your finger tips is truly unique. It's about a 10 minute walk to the Inner Harbor and just a block from Mt. Vernon pubs.
- I NEVER hear my neighbors. At first I thought I just had quiet neighbors- but over the past two years people have come and gone and I still hear nothing. The floors are concrete, so there is no annoying foot stomping early in the morning or late at night from the apt. upstairs.
- The ammenities are nice- having a gym, package pick up, and petsitting services make life that much easier. Included utilities is a god sent on months when the budget is tight. I LOVE HAVING THE POOL! Even though you're in the middle of downtown Baltimore, you can get away and relax at the pool.
- The laundry and quite large and cleaned regularly. I rarely have to wait for a machine and can do several loads all at the same time.
- The studio apartments are quite large and the layout is unique. I like that the kitchen is seperate from the living space and the closets are huge. I moved from a very large one bedroom apartment into the studio and made everything fit with only a little creativity.
Cons:
- Parking has been a nightmare. The garages close by are very unsafe and my car was broken into multiple times. When I finally got off the waitlist for the garage under the building I was so traumatized from my previous parking experiences I would pay any rate just to be safe. Now I pay through the nose for parking but my car and I are both safe. Parking for my visitors is still a problem- depending on the time of day they can get street parking but if the street spots are taken they end up paying a fortune to park in the garage.
- The apartments are a bit outdated. The lobby is a little deceiving because the apartments are not nearly as modern and impressive. That being said I have lived very comfortably for the past two years and have not been inconvienced by the appearances.
- I have not had any major issues that required much interaction with the residence service office but I can understand some of the other comments about the staff being cold and a bit rude.
- I live low down in the building and the street noise is definately audiable. The new and improved windows have helped but I sleep with a sound machine at night to drown out the sirens and street noise.
- Rent continues to get higher and higher with no adjustments made for tenants who are continuing their lease. We pay the same that a person coming to look at the place for the first time.
- The elevators seem to be a constant source of issue. Every other day one of them doesn't work so the wait time to get up and down the tower can get annoying.
- When I first moved in the fire alarms were a problem- going off at ungodly hours of the day. However, this has GREATLY improved and they are currently installing a new and improved fire alarm system. I do not find the fire alarms a problem any longer.
I think that's everything. All in all, no place is perfect and Charles Towers is certainly no exception- but when it comes to the important things, safety, comfort, affordability, and reliability Charles Towers has met and exceeded my expectations. I would certainly recommend Southern Management and Charles Towers to other young working professionals.
