Good downtown living for the young, hip

Now moving out of Gallery Tower after spending my first stretch of post-college life there. I really think the place spoiled me a bit, it's a modern up-to-date building that I think is well geared towards college students and twentysomethings.
Pluses: Good location. Just a 2-minute walk to Mount Vernon Park, with its summer concerts, Book Fair, Flower Mart, Christmas monument lighting, Holly Tour, etc. Staff were always very friendly to me and maintenance requests were always handled same-day. My apartment was a bit small but all fixtures and finishes were new and the wall-to-wall carpet was great. Made ample use of the free 24-hour gym. All utilities were included in rent, so for a couple years at least, I could blithely ignore the hysteria about BGE rate hikes. Nice rooftop pool with occasional parties and dinners, and a great view of 4th of July fireworks all over the city.
Minuses: On-street parking. I got my car window smashed twice and some belongings taken. Occasional parking tickets when trying to cheat the meters. Anyone NOT working a regular 9-to-5 job will be very upset when it comes to parking, and I understand that community parking spaces are in high demand. As in much of downtown Baltimore, unsavory people and bums of many types can be found wandering. Traffic and parking woes greatly exacerbated during Pridefest Parade, St. Patty's Day Parade, Flower Mart, all that other stuff. Occasional drunken rowdiness from young residents (even though my floor was perfectly quiet). Not a great neighborhood to be wandering alone at night, especially if female.
Despite typical downtown living issues and safety concerns, this place gave me a great experience for 3.5 years and I'd recommend it. Students with no cars who want a good location and lots of things to do in the neighborhood, you can't go wrong with a place like this.
