I could not wait to get out

Years at this apartment: 2004 - 2006
I was a student at Morgan State University and I needed an inexpensive apartment close to school. I had a horrible roommate, but we found what we thought we needed in Goodnow. A basement level 2bedroom, 2 full bath for $633/mo.
Maintanence:
The 1st night after I moved in my bathroom toilet AND tub flooded. There was so much dirty water (sewer water, if you know what I mean!!!) that it also flooded into my bedroom. My roommates bathroom also flooded and it was on the other side of the apartment! It took management 3 days to respond to my complaint. For the 2 years that I lived in that apartment, I had endured through over 15 separate flood situations, one in which there was severe damage to my bedroom furniture.
There is a huge mice and squirrel (yes squirrel) problem, in which maintanence does very little in stopping. I have seen 3 mice with in my apartment, 1 mouse died in my wall, and you can hear the entire colony scratching around within the walls. I have seen roaches in my bathrooms and kitchen. I beleive that the roaches and mice came from my neighbors apartment. I know this because they own 2 small dogs, 2 cats, a countless amount of birds, and have the worst hosekeeping procedures I have ever seen/smelled... Despite Goodnow's "firm NO pet" policy, my neighbors seem to keep their zoo running smoothly!!!
The was a huge leak on the 3rd floor of my building. That leak trickled down to my basement floor apartment ceiling, entry door, and electical/heating system. I had buckets of water collecting in my living room. The leak warped my door so that my roommate and I were trapped (yes trapped) inside the apartment over the weekend (The maintence men had to kick in the door!). And our security and heating system were damage so much so that it short circuited the entire buliding.
Also out AC stopped working in July of 2005. It took 4 complaints, a $300 BGE bill, and a serious curse out on my part to convince a maintanence crew member that I knew how an AC unit works and that mine happened to be broken! Then he tore up the wall in my kitchen, leaving a huge hole and a lot of brick pieces everywhere!
My roommate suffered through a huge breakdown brought on by several maintanence problems and the mouse that died in the wall.
I broke my lease in april (a 2month beak fee) and got the hell out of there! I guess I picked the wrong building, the wrong floor, and and the wrong rental agency. My apartment was the perfect size for me, but the neighborhood is GHETTO. To visit Towson (an ideal area to live) and then travel all the way back to Goodnow is just depressing. You can't jog with twisting your ankle, the grounds haven't been touched in years, and the streets surrounding area are the WORST in baltimore (there is an actual sinkhole on goodnow road. A SINKHOLE, PEOPLE!!!
There is a reason why Goodnow is sooo cheap. But I guess you get what you pay for!
