Pre-Ghetto - I'd Look Elsewhere If You Can Afford It

First of all I never had a problem with my safety. My neighbors and I all watched out for one another. If you are a recluse, the people in the complex will probably not give a crap if someone breaks in. But be aware, its on the edge of the city. Your very close to the major drug market. But its significantly safer than 3 blocks closer into the city.

The buildings are old. There are many stress fractures on the inside. But it is also a good sized, 2 level 2 bedroom with a nice big bathroom. The walls are thin so you can hear your neighbors running up and down the stairs, or fighting.

Parking sucked. Frequently there were no parking spaces later at night but the hadicapped spots, so I'd park in those. Never got a ticket. My car was never so much as touched, but then again I was smart enough to not leave valubles laying in plain sight.

Maintenence sucked. When we moved in there was glue all over the linoleum flooring, so dirt and your shoes stuck to it every time you walked on it. We told maintenece several times this was unacceptable and they needed to clean it, but they never did. We had no other maintenece calls. The management was uninformed. We asked if we could extend our lease month by month and the one man said no, then the next day another woman said yes. The manager didnt understand when we moved in that we were having our parents cosign because we were students and did not have income. Therefore our parents would not be residents. She was complaining of too many people living in the apartment. She was completely incompitent.

As far as bugs and rodents go, we had 2 mice (which my cat caught) and one roach in a one year lease. The dumpsters were infested with rats though, and I can see how others apartments would be too. But if your smart enough to keep your kitchen clean, you won't have a problem.

The neighbors... Well, forgive me for not being pollitically correct, but if your white, you'll be the minority. There are three kinds of people living there: college students, poor young black families, and poor elderly black families. Our neighbors had 3 children, one elderly woman and one adult living in a 3 bedroom apartment. Almost everyone I talked to asked me if I wanted to buy some drugs.

I never went to the pool because I heard it was green. I never walked around at night by myself. I looked over my shoulder and in the backseat of my car when walking arond/getting in my car. I always locked the dead bolt and never raised the blinds downstairs. I also lived in one with a balcony and felt an added bit of security, but I saw a number of people climb onto neighbors balconies and steal stuff.

If you want to live here, get one with a balcony, seriously inspect it first, make friends with the neighbors, and keep it clean. Also live towards the back of the complex further away from the main road. Less drug trafficking there.

But really I would highly recommend looking elsewhere before living here. SROlYjGrgm2VnM-SactV
