Not Good.....Stay Away

Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2006
I moved into Jefferson House in the Fall of 2005 when I was starting graduate school. At the time, the staff showing me the place was nice, and the place itself didn't seem in too bad of shape compared to some of the other apts around the area.
This started to change quite a bit when I moved in. The office staff completely changed, and it seems to have frequent turnover. The apt had a horrible paint job and I could barely stand to live in the apt for the first month because of the horrible fumes. There is no ventilation, and the smell just stayed. I live on the first floor and can readily hear people walking by, talking, and smell when they smoke etc., its absolutely horrible. Many, many times I came back to an apt that smelled heavily like smoke because of people smoking outside at the bus stop, and once again no ventilation meant it stayed like that for quite a while. The kitchen is a total mini piece of crap, its old, dirty, poorly lit and is about as far from appatizing as there could possibly be. There literally is no counter top space, I had to buy a kitchen cart to be able to have any space to prepare food. The kitchen has not been updated since the 1950's, and I'm not kidding.
The bugs: When I first moved in, I noticed a few bugs. I figured its an old place, a few are normal. Well this very quickly changed. With cooler weather, the roaches multiplied like crazy. Not only in my apt, but the entire building was complaining! They were everywhere, it was absolutely disgusting. My kitchen was crawling with them no matter how well I cleaned it, or how many times the exterminator came to visit. I began to expect them whenever I came into my kitchen.
Eventually after many complaints from me and no doubt almost every resident, the place was exterminated head to toe (I had to leave the apt so they could do it) and that seemed to mostly cure it. Mostly, meaning I see a roach every 4-5 days now, GREATLY reduced from before, but still horrible!
Noise: They are building condos across the street and literally building condos outside my window. The buildings that existed when I moved in are completely gone now and replaced with horribly loud construction. Forget any sort of studying at home during the day, its useless! You will wake up at 7am everyday whether you want to or not, because that is when they start all the machines and construction. Its absolutely rediculous and I cannot stand it. While the condos across the street should be done in a few months, right next to the building is going to be a huge condo complex that no doubt will take quite some time to build, think about that if you are tempted to rent...........
Overall, stay far, far away. I cannot in any way suggest renting here. I pay $775 a month for a one bedroom/bath that is decent sized. They failed to mention that also includes lead paint, asbestos insulation around pipes (which is constantly falling out), roaches, loud construction and a horrible smells from smoke outside.
RUN, RUN AWAY, I am so glad my lease is up soon, I hate paying nearly 800 bucks a month to live in this craphole.
