Some good things, some bad

Anywhere you live in Baltimore is going to come with some sort of tradeoff. There are some really nice things about living in Marlboro Square: a block away from the University of Maryland campus (and library!), walking distance to the Inner Harbor, and it has a free shuttle around the city. I never have problems with noise from the neighbors. The ceilings in my apartment are about 13 feet high and it's very spacious inside. However, with the big windows we have and air vents near the ceiling (dumb), utilities are very expensive. I'd say the rent is reasonable (but still somewhat overpriced) for the area, but I wish utilities were included. The kitchen was made pretty cheaply, plus our dishwasher doesn't work too well. Also we have had mice all winter long in our apartment, and when I notified the front desk, they just gave us a couple of traps and never looked to find the mouse holes. There is a fire station right across the street, so noise all the time. The parking lot outside is expensive and there is a liquor store next door and a topless bar on the corner, along with several homeless people who sleep outside (sometimes in the stairwell)--all of which need to go! Also, the key card locks are not as secure as they seem... So I don't feel that safe living here, but I am glad I have a shuttle bus that picks me up and drops me off right at my door.
