Ups and downs...

I've been living in the Marylander for a little over 4 months now. I'm subletting from someone (which I'm not sure is technically allowed) and during my time here it's been ok.
Some Ups:
Location is great. If you are a Johns Hopkins student (which I am not) this place would be perfect. Just a two blocks over and you're on the campus! Also two blocks down is a Barnes and Noble, lots of restaurants, coffee shops, and a few bars.
I'm currently in a studio, and I've realized its a bit small for my taste. However, I am renting it furnished and think if it was empty and filled it with my own furniture I could have made it work.
I'm not sure what people are talking about when they say its cold during the winter and they don't get hot water. I actually have my heat turned off and sometimes open my window because my apartment gets so warm! I think I am getting the warmth from surrounding apartments.
The kitchen in my studio apartment is rather small, small fridge, small gas stove and oven, no dishwasher, but if you are someone like me who doesn't create that big of a mess and doesn't let a mess pile up in the sink than it's ok.
I windows are pretty big and let in a lot of light, so that is nice!
The maintenance people have always been pretty quick and very nice towards me. Of course, I've only had them changed a light bulb for me so far (I'm very short.)
They created a new social room this fall with sofas, tables, and tvs. I haven't used it, but it looks like it would be a good place to have a studio group or something.
Downs:
The laundry facility in the basement doesn't have a coin machine. Very annoying. I go to the Hopkins library and use their coin machine.
The fitness room is pretty dirty. I often see signs that say they cleaned it that morning but it never looks any different to me. Even a disinfecting spray so people could wipe down their machines afterwards would be a big improvement. There is at least one tv in their but I have yet to figure out how to turn it on.
There is a parking garage, which I use, but it's pretty pricey, and the spots are TINY. If you have a small car and the person next to you has a small car, its ok, but if you both have SUVs you're in trouble. Still, its nice to always have a clean, dry car in the morning and its safer than parking far away at night. You need a key to get in and out of the parking garage, which is also good.
Some of the office people aren't the nicest. However, the older woman is very nice!
The apartment building can have some crazy smells, I believe from cooking, but I never smell it in my own apartment, just in the hallways.
Overall, this place is the nicest or most fanciest place on the block (though they could stand to keep it a little cleaner), but if you are looking for a good location in Charles Village, this should suit your needs.
