These apartments really suck. They are tiny, infested with rats and roaches, and very poorly managed. Their rules are unfair, and include no riding bikes, no playing ball, no dogs in the front yard, and everything outside will be confiscated by the rental office without notice. There is a lot of crime here. A murder or a robbery occurs once every month or two, and there was at least one case of rape in 2006. The paint on the wall has lead in it, and constantly peels off, even after it has been repainted. The roof above the bathtub is unstable, and often collapses. Whenever you look into the bathroom of a vacant apartment, you see that the bathroom ceiling is in the bathtub. Often, pipes are also visible. The windows aren't properly sealed, and the heater often fails, so at any given moment, you are either too hot, or too cold. The walls are thin, and the door can easily be broken into, and you can hear someone walk up the stairs, or talking about something in a neighboring apartment, or playing outside, as if they were right next to you. There are kids outside until midnight, and in the afternoon hours, you can never get rid of the sound of obnoxious kids. The rental office staff is extremely rude (don't trust their smiles), and they take an awfully long time to fix something. They never clean up the dog poop, so in the backyard (the only place where dogs are allowed), there is at least one pile of ---- every square yard. They never clean up parking lots after it snows, so you are left to park in a messy pile of slush, if you are lucky enough to even get a parking space. They never rake the leaves either. The rent is an outrageous $695, and they tried to raise it to $730, which was met with so much protest, that they never got another chance to raise the rent. It is even better than living in a dumpster, and should be worthless. Whatever you do, DO NOT RENT THESE APARTMENTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Kitten Toes, Maybe they can't afford anything else. Did you read the reviews, it sounds like management doesn't care about it's tenants. When you make under $16,000 a year and you're supporting three kids, its a little hard to find a place, other then the streets to live. So shut your spoiled ass up and stop being so judgemental. Try and walk in there shoes for once.

I DID walk in their shoes. I actually lived at Meadow Lane. I understand you get what you pay for and I made sure I was not going to live there forever. For the price, you cannot beat it. You can't even get a studio in most places for what people there pay for a two-bedroom.
If you have three kids and make under 16 K per year, I suggest you stop wasting time on the internet and get another job or enroll in a university so you can improve your situation. My parents and I were immigrants to this country and that's what we all did. We lived in some places that weren't that nice but we were grateful because we were in America and people have much more power here to improve their lives. Why don't YOU stop bellyaching.
Again, for such low rent, the management probably cannot afford to make as many improvements as they like. YOU as a tenant have rights, two hands and a brain. Too cold? Sew some curtains. OR buy some from the thrift store (where I still shop, by the way) you can get them for under 10 dollars. Mice? Find the holes in your apartment and stop them up with steel wool. There are lots of other things you can do to get rid of mice and roaches. Do some research. If you live in an inexpensive place, some of these "amenities" will be do-it-yourself. But I can tell you one other thing, there is a shuttle to the university that stops at Meadow Lane. UMBC offers continuing education classes. If you make that little money and aren't willing or able to get another job, the government will even pay for your education.
I wish I were as spoiled as you sound. Even though I have a good job, education and my own business, I know how to be greatful for what I have. I also make way more than 16K, but I don't have ANY children because I am responsible and I want to make sure I can take care of them, educate them properly and put them in a good environment. Do you want me to feel sorry for someone who decided to have three children? I can't do that.
I am also a landlord and I charge enough rent to Mostly cover my expenses. In order to have a really nice place, you need to have enough income to pay for the expenses or NONE of the meadowlane tenants would have a place to live. Does that make sense?
If they need to fix the roof, pay maintenance techs and renovate, they have to raise the rent. You can't make money out of nothing. That's what American capitalism is all about. And nothing cheap is going to be the best. Make the best of it and be thankful for what you have.
As I mentioned before Meadow Lane's leases are month-to-month. If they are breaking the law, take them to court. If you lose in court, then you don't have a legal leg to stand on. Trying to ruin the reputation of the apartment complex online where they can't respond is wrong.
That's my opinion and as this is a free country, I happily defend it.

Kitten toes I think you need to learn the term SLUM LORD!!!!! We moved there when we were young and starting out. I now have a medical career, and two beautiful children and a husband and let me tell you. I had the bathroom drop ceiling fall on my head while I was in the shower. The toilet system backed up on night when we were asleep and our apartment flooded out with other tenant fecal matter. Our tub fell through the floor due to wood rot and black mold (oh did I mention the tile floors if you live in the basement are asbestos tiles can you say cancer). As far as I know the mold damage is still there, I still have picture and video proof of the poor health conditions that I am sure NIH or the CDC would love to view maybe I should call in a favor of a friend who works for them. And FYI people do sue the complex and have lost because the owner pays people off including the housing inspector (Just ask any long term staff). I am glad to be long gone from that hell hole. I believe in KARMA so one day that law breaking slum lord will pay for his transgressions.
