I can't believe that we've lived here for almost 5 years. Initially I did not like it. It's an older community and I had always lived in very new complexes. I've come to accept its faults. We're now looking to return to Florida so not sure how much longer we'll be here. From what I've heard there's quite a waiting list for a 2-br so it shouldn't be hard to get out of the lease.
PARKING: Reviewers have complained about the parking situation. It totally depends on where in the complex you live. Some areas have three buildings in a U-shape and all buildings share the limited parking therein. Our parking situation is great. One building facing the complex street. Plenty of spots.
MAINTENANCE: Also depends on where you live. My understanding is that they assign certain maint guy to certain buildings. Our guy is... eh... I call him 'Red' because he has red hair. I find that we have to call 2-3x before he actually fixes the problem. Whatever - such is life in an apt. When there's an emergency, they come - the on-call person rotates.
POOL: Actually it's quite decent. They have a regular pool and a tot pool. The pool is huge, people are respectful (generally no loud music / obnoxious behavior). Last season's lifeguard was so nice.
Thank G-d I have never had any rodent/animal/ant/roach problems. I don't know anyone personally in the complex who has.
SAFETY: I find the area to be quite safe overall. No safety probs with unit or car.
BUILDINGS: I agree with another reviewer who was annoyed that families leave strollers in common areas. I took care of that in our building by removing any stroller left by the mailbox and putting it outside the front door. Ppl stopped leaving strollers. I find it obnoxious that someone will block access to the mailboxes for their own convenience. I have a child and do not leave my stroller in the way of everyone else. I agree that it's not well insulated. Temp is never 'right.' I feel like it's never cool enough during the summer unless I blast the a/c. You get great cross ventilation though so you can keep it open when the weather is nice.
CONVENIENCE: It's about 20 min to downtown, near Towson mall (great mall), about 20 from Hunt Valley (love Wegmans). About 30 min from BWI. A new complex called The Quarry opened 3 min drive up the road with Starbucks, Organic Dry Cleaner, Dr offices, Fresh Market grocery, etc. Nice. You're about 4 minutes from 695 and 6 from 83. A Shoppers grocery store is within walking distance, which is nice when the weather is pleasant. There is also a drug store, few restaurants, gas station there.
OFFICE STAFF: I have never liked them. There's an old gal there who was always SO Unpleasant. She had some health problems and seems to have lightened up a bit. Maintenance people - the gal who answers the phone there is nice now; prior person was nasty. The office will not accept packages, which is annoying.
PLAYGROUND: It's ok. Has a small thing with 3 swings, slide, monkey bars. There is a sand thing but the sand they just put in is SUPER FINE to the point that you just don't want to touch it. It's dust like!
NOISE: Also depends on where you live. I can hear noise from my downstairs neighbor but not from my neighbor across the hall, aside from occasional TV. Though the halls show exposed brick (I hoped noise would be minimal), you can hear neighbors above/below. A friend could smell cigarette smoking from her downstairs neighbor. I'm not surprised - take a look under the sink and they did not close up everything around the pipes.
GROUNDS: They're ok. Usually clean up leaves before the first snow fall but not always. Pool sometimes covered shortly after it closes or after it freezes over a few times. Just nothing spectacular.
PETS: they charge a pet fee, but no pet rent. Cats allowed, no dogs.
I'm shocked to see myself rating the place so highly in "overall," but it's served us well. Maintenance annoys me; management annoys me. The price is fine $930 for 2/2 and the location is great for Orthodox Jews in particular. There is a shul any direction you go. Prob 10 within a 1 mi radius.
