Like 99% of the people that seem to move in to PierSide, I was also from out of state. I was very excited ? our apartment had not been lived in before, everything was new and things seemed great. Then I moved in.
The management office is consistently horrible. If we hadn?t been dealing with the people at Harborview, we never would have moved in. Since we never had contact with our actual leasing office, we had no clue how horrible they were.
The first issue is parking. Overnight guests had to pay $10 a night to park in the outside gravel lot, and were unable to park in the garage even though there are at least 100 empty parking places in the lower level. No kidding. Even though I went downstairs and pre-paid for my parents to park when they visited me for a weekend, the front desk guy still tried to extort money from my own Mom & Dad when they arrived ? before he would even call my apartment to say they had arrived. My dad had to call me on his cell to tell me what was going on in my own lobby!
But to more serious issues, the 4th floor has no heat in the winter. My neighbor has a small child and had to move out last winter because he couldn?t get the temperature in his apartment to get above 60 degrees. Our repeated complaint calls went nowhere. They would say ?we are working on it?. I finally bought a digital room thermometer that tracks highs and lows. It was 43 degrees in my apartment with the heat running full blast. My heating bills in a one-bedroom apartment were nearly $200 a month ? and I had no heat! The leasing office refused to do anything and refused to let me out of my lease. Unlike my neighbor, I couldn?t afford to lose the security deposit they made me pay and move. It was a miserable winter.
During one rain storm, the roof of the building collapsed and flooded several apartments (keep in mind this is a brand new building!) There was so much water, we first noticed it when we pulled in to the garage. Luckily our apartment escaped the flood. But we did notice, since they had the roof access open, there was no insulation in the roof!! Maybe this is why we had no heat''
All of this is in addition to the small issues we?ve had around the place ? access cards not working, elevators constantly down, some floors losing power, but other floors keeping power. None of our appliances were properly hooked up when we moved in ? our bathtub flooded our downstairs neighbor because someone hadn?t tightened the seal, the first time we ran the dishwasher it flooded our kitchen because it wasn?t tightened either. Then add that to the fact that there has been at least one suicide in our building, and a jumper at Harborview and those are just the ones we?ve known about since we have had to navigate the police to enter our building both times. All of this is just within one year. I?m glad I?m moving out of PierSide! With all of the other new complexes in the area, please think twice before moving here!
