A little pricey for what you get...

I lived here for my first two years at UM Law. It is very convenient for students at the professional schools, as it is walkable.

Amenities are fairly nice. Gym got better equipment. Outdoor sundeck is nice although the view that once extended from Camden Yards to the harbor is shot by the new building.

Watch out for all the hidden costs. You'll pay rent, $130 for parking, and $50 for an amenities fee. Bottom line is that with utilities, expect to pay over $2000/month for a basic 2 BR apartment. I really would've liked a breakdown of what the amenities fee was actually spent on, as it seemed a little high. Parking is safe, controlled access with direct entry to the building from the garage, and in a city-owned garage. Beware though that because the garage is also used for parking for stadium events, you'll want a copy of the Orioles and Ravens schedules to know when the garage will be packed and it'll take you an hour to exit.

The downside... it's still really not a safe area. Despite Baltimore's best efforts to redevelop the Westside, you will not feel safe walking at night. You will be bombarded by people begging you for money and walk past countless drug addicts and "walking crazies." Not to mention that if you live on the side of the building that looks down onto Eutaw Street, the patrons of the Upper Deck bar will make noise until 5am on all nights of the week. You assume some risk living across the street from a bar, but it is ridiculous how loud the people are when they leave and how long they loiter outside yelling and honking horns. I called Baltimore Police on numerous occasions to have them break it up. Also, beware that you are right next door to the busiest fire department in Baltimore City and that ambulances and fire trucks turn on their sirens 24 hours a day, even when the streets are empty. That gets really, really loud, but eventually I learned to sleep through it.

So it is a safe and attractive building and management is pretty good. Downsides are the total cost of living there, the rampant noise, and the neighborhood. Bottom line is that if you're a young professional in Baltimore, move to Federal Hill or Canton. Don't move downtown just yet.
