Not bad at all

Years at this apartment: 2008 - 2009
I see that this complex has been getting mixed reviews. Well, in all honesty...you get what you pay for. I think many of the things people complain about are part of living in an apartment. We've been here since last May and the only issue we have with bugs are those many-legged things (house centipedes I think they're called) after it rains, and we are on the first floor--basement level--so that explains that. It's no big deal, though. I did see one mouse back in September, called the maintenance, the exterminator was out the next week, and haven't seen one since. As for roaches' Nothing yet (and our last apartment had a HUGE problem with this, so, trust me). The exterminator normally comes once a month, so things are good on that front.
As for the management staff, they are pretty good overall. There seems to be a high turn-over-rate of staff (all but Amber, who has been there since we moved in and will be the one you probably have the most contact with--and she knows her stuff), but the staff is always friendly. I've never had any problems with Rose, so can't really speak to the negative comments on her. Did our rent increase in a year' Sure, but that's the time we live in. It only increased 20 dollars, so it's nothing terrible.
We live in a "2 bedroom" apartment--and I use the term "2 bedroom" loosely because the second bedroom is awfully small (we use our's for a den), but overall the place is a decent size for the money you pay. The closets could be updated (they're the older, sliding door kind--not ugly, but not always efficient), but other than that nothing too bad. You will feel a lot of air coming through the windows, but they're big windows, and it's more of a problem in the winter than the summer. Even with that, though, our electric bill (apartments run on central air) never got higher than 120 a month (my husband and I work all day long, so maybe that has something to do with it--I don't know...).
We have had 2 incidents of minor flooding: our hot water heater broke once and the washing machine on the other side of us broke and flooded our bedroom--minor flooding, though, in the sense that our carpet just got wet. BUT, the good thing is that they maintenance is SUPER EFFICIENT AND PLEASANT (added bonus), so you're never going to be stuck waiting if something happens (been there, done that with our last apartment).
The biggest problem, in my opinion, is the noise. Creaky floorboards, paper-thing walls, and NOISY NEIGHBORS above us make some nights unbearable (and I get up at 4am, so...not always good). I've come to accept this as just an apartment thing for the most part, but it can get annoying. And it's something I'm not quite sure the management knows how to deal with. My advice' Get a top-floor apartment if possible and just be respectful to the neighbors below you (we have people who like to move furniture and do carpentry--I swear--at 1am because they don't really work...).
Overall though, I think it's very nice. It has a real sense of community--good if you have kids because there are always FREE activities going on for families and you can tell they really take care of the place--lots of maintenance and whatnot going on. Also, it's a nice, quiet neighborhood with a lot of diversity. If you don't mind noise and normal apartment stuff, I would consider it. ALSO, the light rail station is right around the corner (probably a 10 minute walk). Very handy. One more thing: parking IS NOT AN ISSUE! Unless you're super ---- about getting a parking space right out front of your door, there is a lot of it.
