Although we understand the frustrations of previous reviewers, the key to a happy experience at the Carlyle is location location location. I also lived here for two years, but was fortunate enough to live on the 11th floor and had a balcony no less, so the issues pertaining to garage noise and the like were not a problem for us at all. We also have never had issues with infestations(roaches and mice), but again, this may be a benefit of living on higher floors that are farther away from the restaurant. The floors are an issue because their constant flaking is not only a nuisance, but also a health hazard for our two cats.
In regards to problems with the maintainance, we found them to be accommodating and perfectly amenable. The key is to be kind to them and not treat them like your problem is their fault or the only one in the entire building. I know for a fact that however spacy they may seem, the staff all works very hard and wants nothing more than to make you happy. Actually, rapport with the staff and management has been such a plus that it is one of our biggest regrets about having to move.
While it may not be the Ritz Carlton, the Carlyle is an a wonderful neighborhood that is close to many fun/important items(supermarkets, movies) and the spacious layouts, reasonable rent, and personable staff make it a wonderdul place to live
