Nice, but overpriced

I chose University West because of a move-in special, and also because I was new to Baltimore and in a rush to find a place. In reality, I could have found a larger apartment for less money. People who live there are paying for location. Many want to be close to JHU; most residents seem to be students.

On the plus side, my neighbors are very quiet, I have beautiful hardwood floors, and I get plenty of light. There are little niceties such as a built-in microwave, a ceiling fan, and enough light fixtures to make buying lamps unnecessary. There is a laundry room in the basement. I am very happy with my apartment overall. Both the area and the building are clean and attractive, with plenty of cute little shops within walking distance. Vegetarians like me will love being so close to One World Cafe. Also check out Video Americain on St. Paul; it has the best selection I've seen anywhere.

The chief negatives are price and parking. Studios run at $649/month, which isn't a great bargain. There is no parking anywhere near the building. If you drive, be sure to factor ten minute walks to and from the car into any trip. They are also a tad slow on fixing things. It is an old building, and things do go wrong from time to time. For example, the outlet in my bathroom didn't work when I moved in. This was not a disaster, but why did it take three weeks to fix' Oh, and you're not allowed to put nails in the wall, which is a pain. Finally, the street noise (including ambulance sirens from a nearby hospital) can be a bother even as high as the fourth floor. It's louder than you might think.

Overall, I'd say move on in if you can afford it and don't mind the lack of parking. AD2Hw9Wn8Umb3NN1w1jt
