Years at this apartment: 2002-01-01 - 2004-01-01
walker manor is an ok place to live, considering some of the alternatives...
but overall it's pretty average.
buildings/apartments: spacious, adequate closet space.
walls are paper thin.
bottom floor apartments have many unwelcome creatures and vistors...
(in the two years we lived here we saw plenty of small bugs, but the in the last month of our lease we saw a mouse run across the living room- apparently this one time occurence was a blessing, as other buildings had many more visits and were geerally common) patios/balconies are nice and big.
kitchens are decent sized.
pet friendly also.
grounds: well kept.
laundry facilities: most of the residents don't actually use the washers and dryers here on account of the fact that they're smelly and don't work too well! i heard that they will be replacing all of the washers/dryers though before the fall....
the laundry rooms also tend to be a little on the dark/sketchy side (i always felt a little wary going alone!)
parking: first come, first served.
never had a problem with parking, even if coming in late.
i wouldnt feel too comfortable being out there alone late at night though.
maintainence: staff was quite friendly and worked well; that is once they finally get around to coming over.
the sometimes slow response may have been a result of the leasing office which tended to lose messages, besides hardly answering the phones.
(better to visit the office in person to get a speedy response)
management: for 24 hour emergency maintainence you're transfered to the management office.
these people are not helpful, friendly or empathetic.
i had to call on occasion (once because a pipe carrying human waste had burst, understandably it was disturbing and the smell unbearable, but the receptionist was rude and curt) make sure you also know what to do if the pilot light goes out, because despite their claims of a quick response to come and fix it, by the time they actually do anything you'll probably be dead!
rent: very reasonable when we signed our lease two years ago.
when we renewed a year later, it went up by only $20.
this year it's going up by more than $70 for our particular apartment.
overall, i'd say it's an ok apartment for students (very close to towson, goucher and cnd.
but be prepared for bugs and such, especially if you're on a bottom floor, and hope you get quiet neighbors, otherwise you will hear everything! also, it should only be considered for a short-term basis!
