Safety Concerns

When I lived at Willowbrook, an apartment on my floor caught fire (tenant carelessness). My neighbor knocked on my door to warn me. As smoke was filling the hallway, a few of us ran around the building trying the fire alarms, only to find that EVERY SINGLE ONE (8 in all) was NOT in working order. Luckily the fire was contained to the one apartment and no one was hurt, but it could have been much worse because many of the tenants did not respond to us banging on their doors and didn't come out of the building until they saw the fire trucks. I imagine this is illegal and breaks some code; I hope that the situation has been remedied by now... I encourage EVERYONE who is thinking about living there to MAKE SURE the fire alarms are working. Also, the lock on the main apartment door was continually broken. Every time I let management know about it, they said that it would just get broken again (by people yanking it open rather than using their key... so I guess it didn't really matter anyway!), so they rarely bothered fixing it or coming up with another system for securing the front door.
