Choose somewhere else to live

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2007

I am a current resident, and I will only be in Baltimore one more year, and I am taking the trouble of moving, storing furniture, and overlapping rents while I move just to get out of this building.
Number one issue: The lease. Yes it's true, the lease is terrible and the management has too much control, how did they trick me into signing it the first time' Also the application process was intense, at first they didn't accept mine, even after I offered to pay the ENTIRE rent cost up front for ONE YEAR. Then, after reapplying I had to pay another application fee, even after they originally told me the first application would DEFINITELY be approved. It was a headache. If 2 people are leasing the apartment separately, both have to pay the full rent up front, which I have never heard of, that would be $1250 each.

In the lease they require you to cover 90% of the hardwood floors with carpets or rugs to reduce the noise. The floors are hardwood only, no concrete separating the apartments, so if you live below someone obnoxious, (there is a kid above me that runs around his bedroom at night in his shoes and he is about 6'5" and also has an exercise bike in his bedroom) then you have to deal with it or complain.
The price is too high for the quality of the apartment. There is a swing door to the kitchen, and when we moved in it was stuck shut and trying to open it just busted the bottom of the door to pieces in the corner. Apparently there were like 15 screws at the bottom "holding" the door together. Also one of the locks on the backdoor routinely will shoot out onto the floor if the door is opened. Duct tape helped. I am very afraid that we will be charged a large sum for "damages" after moving out since the management has complete control, even if things were in bad shape before we moved in.
Inconsistency of utilities: I don't know if this is due to the central air heat/AC or BGE, but our heat will not work for almost a day at a time, and the AC sometimes doesn't work at all. So far it is May 17 and it hasn't work since I tried in March. Maintenance is impossible to reach, so you have to rely on leaving a message and hoping they come when you are available, usually they pound on the door at 7:30am, look at the problem, then leave and tell you "someone who deals with ____" will be back to assist you, days later. Also families of mice like to live in the back of the stove/oven, regardless of how often 409 cleaner and traps are used.

Some good things about the Woodcliffe: Great neighborhood, next to Hopkins Deli. The trees in the courtyard are nice, there is a cardinal that chills out in the bush outside my window. SEk1KnECheF1ATXbXtrZ
