Arborview Apts. - good and bad
From: -Anonymous-Date posted: 11/20/2007
Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2007
I lived in the Arborview community for a year, but it's managed by the same company. My experience living there was somewhat of a mixed bag. The amenities seemed nice enough, but it wasn't always all good. I had a top floor unit with nice cathedral ceilings. Good sized room and huge closet. Wasn't too noisy in regards to neighbors, but traffic noise from adjacent Rt. 543 was very loud, especially because of the trucks at night when the windows were open. I thought the rent was high but initially, the amenities seemed to justify it. My apartment appeared to be older from the kitchen cabinet, counters, and sink but the appliances were ok. I saw my neighbor's unit and it had all the newest upgrades - made me wonder if I was paying the same for older stuff'
I had a few issues that needed maintenance. First, the climate control unit was struggling to comfortably produce heat. I went to the office to report the problem and was told that's just how the unit operates. I had to solicit professional help on my own from the manufacturer and using their helpful advice, went back to the office to tell them what the problem was. After that, they were pretty good in fixing the problem by replacing the whole unit. I also had problems with the dryer, and they handled that efficiently as well, although the problem didn't fully go away.
As far as amenities go, it's a toss up. They have a good amount - pool, tennis court, lounge, and gym. After moving out, I found that I should have saved on the amenities fee I initially paid because my usage didn't warrant it. It wasn't just because I didn't have time, a lot had to do with the fact that they just aren't operated very conveniently. The gym was small and became fully occupied with just a few people. The tennis court and pool operate according to their office hours, which didn't work for me because, well, I was in my office. I'm sure if I got to use them, I would have been more satisfied.
As a note, my electricity bill was very inconsistent with my usage. It seems like the bill for the warm seasons was about 1/4 of what the cold seasons are, regardless of how I used the AC/heat. As the only occupant in the apartment who was on travel quite often, I continued to pay high prices during the winter. I suspect maybe the electricity and perhaps the water bills are split with other units in the building/community'
Finally, moving out turned my slightly positive experience living there to be somewhat disappointing. As another rented had said, they do seem to nickel and dime you for every little detail they can pin on you during the move out inspection. Granted, I put some wear and tear in myself, but I was also made responsible for things I know were there before I moved in. The bad thing for me is my initial inspection was conveniently missing while theirs showed the apartment to be in perfect condition. I actually took the time to maintain the apartment as if I owned it while I was in there and it aggravates me to still be had in the end.
You might love it there, but all I know is I'm glad to have moved out.
