If only I knew!

I have to admit I was pressed in moving into Barclay Square because to me it provided the best floor plan and space for the best price. The sunken living was a seller for me because it separated the living room from the door area which opened up the space. We paid $1230 for 2 bedrooms and a den with 2 full bathrooms, utilities were included, I felt very confident in my decision on moving to Barclay with my husband and son. Within the first week of living here we wanted to break our lease. Through no fault of the man upstairs his everyday habits are heard by us. . We can here them urinate from our bedroom, we can hear when they take a bath ( the water swishing around) we can hear all sexual activities, them changing their television channels, most of their telephone conversations, arguments, snores which have kept me from sleeping in my own room. I have had to give up putting my 2 year old son down for naps becauase of the noise level that transcends into our apartment from upstairs. We have 2 full baths though only one works. Drains are loud. whenever our neighbors take a shower early in the morning the drains make a loud noise that constantly wakes us up and keeps us up until the finish showering. There are no light fixtures in any of the bedrooms, den or living room so light must be brought in through lamps at night. There is alot of drug use and loitering in the community. Safety is an issue and please note: CARS WILL BE TOWED AFTER 10PM. If you invite guests you have to plan in advance. We've had our cars towed twice. The last time a friends car was towed after only an hour of being parked.
Even with all these issues I still was willing to stay but the biggest issue I have which is why we are definately leaving are the ROACHES.
COMPLETE INFESTATION. They are in our fridge, our oven, the dishwasher, cupboards computers everything we own. We never saw a single roach at Larchdale where we lived previous for 5 years (things could have changed since). They are on our beds, climbing up walls, it's ridiculous. We have had an exterminator come into our apartment every Wednesday for the past year and our roach problem has gotten worse instead of better. We no longer invite people over anymore. We keep nothing on our countertops, We immediately seal food into containers after cooking, we don't keep a single plate in our sink, we spray lysol in our toilets at night so they don't have water to drink, and nothing has worked. We can no longer invite guests becuase they are everywhere. Our rent has increased significantly since moving in one year again and office hours are closed more than it should be.

Here is an honest breakdown of the pros and cons of living at Barclay Square.

PROS
MANAGEMENT (FAIR)
1. Though I was initially lied to by the leasing management that there were no roach problems, i haven't had a bad experience with the staff. They were polite and courteous.

2. MAINTENANCE (FAIR)
Okay service. About 60% of my requests have been answered. The maintenance stafff to me have always been nice and personable.

3. FLOOR PLAN (EXCELLENT)
About 1000 square feet ( high 900's) great floor plan.
Again I had
4. Amenitie (EXCELLENT)
Close to 2 plazas and a mall district. Kentucky, McDonalds'. Taco Bell Target, Jerry's subs, Kohls, etc...

CONS

ROACH & ANTS
1. Roach infestation
Roaches and ants are everywere.

2. PRICE
After only one year we now pay closer to $1400 /month
after raising the price and $65/month for washer and
dryer.

3. SECURITY
Not safe. People have gotten robbed and cars broken into.

4. HOURS OF OFFICE
The leasing office is closed more often during the day then it should be. Also you can pay rent with a debit/credit card.

5. TOWING COMPANY
K&D Towing I believe the name is. It;s like they sit and wait It cost $150 to get car out and an additional $150 a day until you can get car out.

6. LOITERING
Mind you High Point High School is across the street from this complex and many students live at this location as well as students from university of Maryand.

7. Alot of weed smoking during the summer and alot of police activity.
