Looks like the suburbs, sounds like the ghetto

A few years ago, I lived in the garden apartments and had no real problems. Then I moved away for a year. When I moved back here, I moved into the high rise. It was a smaller apartment, but I liked the building and I also liked the fact that it was quiet- the walls between apartments are either brick or very well insulated. That lasted from August to February. Then I began to be disturbed by a loud stereo system with plenty of bass pounding through my apartment. You'd think the noise was coming from a direct neighbor, but upon investigation, I found it was coming from an apartment on the floor above me, and not even from the apartment directly above me but off to the side. You can hear this the moment you step off the elevator on my floor and it has lasted as late as 4am. I tried leaving them messages. That was ignored. I left a note for the office. That was ignored. I left a signed note with my name and apartment number for the office. That was ignored. Finally, I contacted the corporate office on March 3. They contacted the manager here and instructed me to email them back should she not contact me within three days. She did not. I emailed the corporate office again and finally was contacted by the manager here. We exchanged a few emails in which she said she had given "information" to the occupant(s) of the apartment and was attempting to make contact with them to resolve the issue. That was March 11 and the last I heard from her. I have contacted her a few more times to say that the problem still exists, but have received no word. I recontacted the corporate office to say the problem had still not been resolved. They asked for my phone numbers. I gave them both my home and my cell numbers. No calls. I'm a full time teacher and a PhD student. I have never been late with a rent payment. Its deducted automatically from my checking account. The lease forbids noise like this, but obviously that is only there to mislead quiet potential tenants who have no intention of disturbing their neighbors. Based upon my experience, it seems Aimco is really uninterested if their properties turn into ghettos as long as the rent is on time.
Update 4/20- Problem still goes on after yet another month. Management still doesn't give a damn.
Update 5/20-Problem still goes on after yet another month. Management still doesn't give a damn. Never rent from an Aimco community, unless you are soothed by the sound of pounding bass at any hour of the day or night.

Hi, we are "set" to move here in about 2 weeks and I am a but worried about the reviews. We are very clean and never had any bugs, are they that big of an issue? Also safety is very important to me, our apartment has a balcony but I think we are still considered on the "first" floor, even though we will have neighbors beneath us. I have a little girl and one child on the way and I am certain I do not want to move to a dangerous community. Are people robbed or cars stolen? During the day it seems like a decent place, we have visited the complex twice I believe once on a weekday afternoon and again on a saturday afternoon and all seemed safe enough. I would like to use the fitnesscenter and it looked nice enough. Do people "hang out" alot infront of the buildings. My main concern like I said is safety my fiance works later hours and I don't want to fear for him coming home at night or fear for me and my children alone in the complex. any insight would be very much appreiated. Thanks alot.

To Movingsoon23: It depends on the building you'll be staying. There are lots of roaches in certain buildings but not all have this issue. I've lived here since 1999 and never felt unsafe when I would come in late at night. However, no matter where you are, you need to be aware of your surrounding. There have been robberies and stolen car issues. All I can say is, each persons experience is different.
