I've lived at the lighthouse at Twinlakes since april 09 and have mixed reviews about the complex.
When we signed our lease they said they would replace the refrigerator and maybe the stove. So far we got a new frigde but no stove yet.
As far the actually apartment and building goes...its great. were on the top floor so we have these aweseme woodbeam ceilings. very cozy and dark. we live in the building directly adjacent to beltsville drive and its fairly quiet on this side. we don't get alot of noise from other units or people loitering outside. The neighbors seem friendly and we live so close to the dog park...which now has doggy bags thanks to me! unfortunately a couple months ago 2 cadillacs were ripped off and placed on cinderblocks directly in front of my building but one guys was able to recover his stolen tires. and management repaired the broken door within the week.
My concerns are regarding the security of the building. someone has repeatedly put pennies or whatever in the door so it no longer locks securely. but thats ok cuz the key fobs dont work ANYWAYS! Also, management is very disorganized. We've had repeated issues with supposed outstanding balances on our account, where they would call or leave a notice on our door. but when i called back to find out what the charges were for they couldnt tell me. I know that the bookkeeper recently left so they are super disorganized right now. but damn 3 times someone told me i owed $300 and then said "oh no thats a mistake on our part."
the best part about the lighthouse is its proximity to moco, silver spring and the superfresh shopping center (which poopoos on giant).

Finally, sez it all. Didn't know the bookkeeper left. She was wonderful through thick and thin. I've been here since 6/2006. Is the dog yard still carpeted with poop? Gave up a long time ago. Thanks for your community interest. Wish you'd start a Lighthouse Dog Owners group.

the dog park is in bad shape, i guess just for me... my dog loves it. lol. but yes i was thinking of trying to organize like a doggy social for all of the dog owners in the community. if i do i'm sure you'll hear about it.

Great review, you hit on a lot of key points that irritate me about this place! (Also, I live on the top floor too and love the wood beam ceilings!) The security door thing seriously pisses me off. I paid like $175 for an extra key fob for when I go out of town, and the stupid thing isn't even functioning now! They told me that they were "rebuilding the system because a lot of residents were having trouble getting into their buildings". --------. It's because their stupid staff can't manage that system properly. And they told me this when I renewed my lease at the end of May, and those doors hadn't been working for at least 3 months prior. What is taking so long?? We were asked to re-register our key fobs so they could rebuild it. But still, nothing has happened. I have also had major issues with their accounting. One time I was told I owed over $600, only to find out it was because their previous community manager failed to sign off on my lease renewal in time, and susequently shoved it under the rug. Which meant all my payments were going into a black hole. Document EVERYTHING because you will need to fix their mistakes for them. Also, don't ever sign up for the automatic payments, I have a strong fear that they'll take more than they're supposed to from my account on accident.
