Worth It :o)

I chose Townley after reading a review from a previous resident and being impressed after an initial visit. I?ve lived here for one month and have had few issues, nothing major, and I?m satisfied with my choice.

The good: This is a remarkably quiet apartment, so quiet that I wonder if I even have neighbors at all (I do). The layout is nice; very good use of space. The covered balcony is quite large (enough space for a table and four chairs with room to spare). Water pressure and temperature are great, fresh paint, and good quality (and clean) carpet. Plenty of natural light. The bedroom is average in size, but the walk-in closet is huge! I put one of my dressers in the closet to save space in the bedroom. Walkways and stairwell are well lit and landscaping is well-maintained. Parking is reasonable; I can usually see my vehicle from one of my windows. Maintenance people are prompt and friendly.

Few minor complaints: Kitchen cabinets are old dark wood and a few of the drawers are wobbly. (Renovated kitchens are available for a substantially higher rate.) The dishwasher is older than me, but they won?t replace it because it still works. Not enough counter or cabinet space in the ktchen for cooking a real meal. (But it is an eat-in kichen and you can purchase a microwave cart to free up space.) Only two phone jacks (kitchen and L.R.) are wired into the apartment. You have to request parking passes for overnight guests or they will be towed. One of the two women in the rental office has an attitude problem, but she?ll still do her job without much grief. Also, like every other safe apartment in the DC Metro area, the rent is high and Townley offers no student, preferred employer, or military discounts. If you are new to the area, prepare to be broke.

I?m a graduate student on a fixed (low) income, so the rent ($895 now, $925 later this summer after rent incr.) is a stretch for me. However, all utilities are included and I am living in peace compared to some of my classmates. Rent in this area is high in general, so Townley?s is about average.

I say give it a try. No place is perfect, but you?ll most likely think it?s worth it compared to the competition (ie. Seven Springs Village, Powder Mill Village).
