I disagree with one of the posters who state that this apartment is like living in a hotel. When I stay at a hotel I never hear my neighbors using the bathroom, flushing the toilet, walking, or worse yet their four year old kid who jumps from sun up to sun down or who has sleep overs with other screaming four year old kids yelling into the wee hours of the morning. I live on the bottom floor in the front of the apartments so while those floor to ceiling windows are pretty they speak nothing of practicality. In the summer we were hot but it was only a nusisance. In the winter we were freezing cold and our heat is frequently on 85 to 90 just to stay barely warm. In the summer the grounds reak(sp) of dog so if you are going somewhere dressed in your best you better head straight to your car in the garage or you will smell like a kennel. The management is nice but slightly incompetent. They do seem to make an effort when you have a problem. Their system for managing oversized packages is inconsistent and they have on occassion misplaced my packages. Overall, I think most of the problems can be blamed on the poor construction of the facility and the sub standard quality of the Whirlpool appliances. For the price at the very least stay somewhere where you'll have more trouble free living. Maintenence has visited my apartment so much I know the whole staff by name.

That's why they call it "Apartment Living". Buy a house if you don't want to hear your neighbors.

It's called "Community Living". By this, both parties should be respectful of the other. Hence, people living above another should try to walk a little softer and curtail their children from running and stomping where possible. Often this does become excessive and some people do walk like cows for no apparent reason. As for the flushing the toilet, this may sound like a petty complaint. I lived in a second floor unit and thought it odd how much my neighbors flushed until they moved out - and it continued. What became apparent is that not only do you hear the people above you, but also the people above them. The reviewer mentions being on a first floor, hence they were listening to the three apartments above them flush. Now that's annoying. There basically is now sound insulation between the floors. I could tell where every person of the family was at any given time. God forbid should the someone wears heels on the kitchen tile floor. To sum up, it's "Community Living", but both parties need to participate - and just because you live above someone does not give you free reign to make the people below you miserable. Nevertheless, I would ONLY recommend leasing a top floor unit - the Potomac has the least shared wall space with neighbors.

I think the person that made this post is over exaggerating just a bit. Yeah, it is called "Apartment Living". So if you have problems with the noise, move into a house. We lived in a third floor apartment for our first lease, and yes, we heard water running through pipes in the walls when people flushed, but not the actual "whoosh" of a flushing toilet. In that apartment, the people above us walked around like lead-footed elephants, but as the most recent responder mentioned, it takes two to cooperate, so ask them to please have a little respect and walk lightly, and maybe if you ASK, they may just walk a little lighter. Now, we live in a fourth floor apartment and have no one above us. It is great, and I am going to stay in this apartment. The appliances are nice, so whoever said that these Whirlpool appliances are crap is obviously "above" these normal apartment buildings, and should either get a house where they control their own appliances, or somewhere where they have maid service and mints on your pillow every time you come home. The windows are a bit big in the bedroom, so yes they are pretty, but it does get cold. So instead of running your heat at 90 degrees 24/7, be a little more COMPETENT and get a couple of nice space heaters. Tacky or not, these keep you nice and toasty. In the summer, get some fans! It doesn't have to be that hard. The management did suck when we got here, and we had many problems with picking up our packages from the office. Now there is a new secretary, and she is wonderful. She is very organized and extremely nice. I am appalled by the comment made about the dogs. If you don't like animals, move into an apartment that doesn't allow them. These apartments have a lot of people who own dogs, and it's a great community. It's a bit mellowdramatic that this poster is claiming you'll smell like a kennel if you take too long to walk to your car. Seriously. I would recommend these apartments to anyone. If your neighbors are being a nuisance, don't just be a hermit and take it... kindly ask them to respect your wishes, and see how far a polite little request can go.
