Noisy, Pricey, Convenient & Little Security

I lived at the Palisades for 1 year and at first I mixed feelings about my time there. Well now that I have left things are a lot clearer to me now. To begin with the rental rate is pretty much the same as with other "newer" buildings in downtown Bethesda. The rub is what you get in terms of day to day living. Is there a nice gym - yes. Do the outside grounds and the lobby look nice - yes. The sad thing about the Palisades is that is it! The units are small and were the epitome of a cookie cutter layout. In my unit there were four doors when you came in the front door. The molding, sinks, cabinets, wall board, doors, electrical outlets, lights and counter tops looked like they were installed by someone with a eye problem. One inch gaps in the floor molding. A kitchen sink - while it might look trendy, was barely big enough to hold one skillet. I had to turn mine side ways to wash it. The maintenace guy - Mohammed, was worthless. He came up a couple of times to fix the same thing and never got it right. If you have a balcony then you also have a lake because they were not sloped correctly so the water just stays on your balcony. The worse thing about this building is the noise. Like others I can tell you that the front doors are not insulated and you can hear your neighbors talking, listening to television, music etc. You can hear every door on the floor close and the noice from the Blue Saphire and the new Irish place goes on until early in the morning. The only thing that Southern Management has done to change things is to electronically clear your rent check in one day. The hallways leading down to the Del Ray back door is still unfinished with water damage all over the place. The 24 hour desk service - an outside firm, will let anyone in without challange. I really did not appreciate my noise and security concerns until I moved. Now I have them and it is actually like coming home now. While not as bad as the Metropolitan - thanks Buzzoto, it does have subsidized renters here and they do trash the place up. If Southern Management really wanted to have a nice place then they would fix the defects and replace the doors for a start. The only thing that they want to do is to rent out their "Penthouse" units for an outrageous price. It looks nice from the outside but for the price one would be better off at Bethesda Place - no I do not live there now! Really folks in Bethesda there are plenty of places with high rents but honestly most are noisy, have security issues more the pity. If you want to live in Bethesda - downtown, than save enough and get in a Condo because Southern Management and Buzzoto control the market and they are all lousy. Also when reading these reviews watch out because a lot of the management companies do post their own reviews to try to negate the real reviews.
