New and clean but can be loud

I have read the previous posts and pretty much all of them are true, EXCEPT that the "dorm" status is soon supposed to change to a regular, privately leased apartment building (I think one person mentioned it). But, I've lived here for the past year, and I can say that at my age I did NOT appreciate the undergrads running around drunk screaming on weekends and sometimes even during the week; I can only imagine what people with kids felt like.
The plusses: Although the AC/heater units are a little bit bulky and cut into the room, it's nice if you are sharing the place and have different temperature preferences, or only want to heat/cool one room; saves on electric. The washer/dryer in unit was SO convenient! The kitchens are fully updated and everything is new. I appreciated how clean everything was. PLENTY of cabinet and storage space in the kitchen and bathrooms and nice big closets in the bedrooms. I will really miss the front desk people, I now consider a number of them my friends. The maintenance crew are great and very quick to respond to problems. We had a serious issue with our electricity this past winter, and although it did take them about 5 visits to realize they needed an outside contractor (meaning 5 times our power went out in a matter of about 3 days!), when they finally called them in, everything was taken care of and we haven't had a problem since. Very friendly staff for the most part. When parking is not obstructed by snow (see below), there is PLENTY of it and close to the door. Everything you could possibly need is conveniently located nearby.
The downside (aside from the noise): Well, if you're NOT a smoker, and the person above you with a balcony IS, then you get nice smokey smells coming into your apartment all the time. (Obviously this is not the management's fault, but still annoying!!) I was also surprised when I tried to clean what I thought was white marble in the bathroom only to find out that it's plastic (abrasive cleaner NOT a good idea). The snow cleanup this past winter was appallingly bad--I actually got my car stuck on the little strip on snow that was left behind each car and didn't melt for about a week. Friends had to help dig the car out--and there were no other options, ALL the car spaces were like that...
I am now moving because the rent is going up as the "dorm" half of the building becomes private. The rooms are definitely overpriced but the area is safe and rather convenient if you have a car. One BIG issue I have with them is their "no pet" policy!
Overall, a good place to be if you don't have kids, have a car, and don't mind paying very high rent.
