I find the yearly rent increases far out of proportion to the services one is supposedly paying for. This year?s annual rent increase for my unit was over 10%. They wait far too long to turn on the air conditioning each year - the apartments have to be absolutely intolerable for several days on end before they will make the switch to A/C. Living at Triangle Towers during the heat wave of April 2002 was a nightmare, and every year I?ve lived there I?ve had to spend several nights sleeping elsewhere until they turned on the A/C, which has also broken down several times a year. The refrigerators in the efficiencies are tiny dormitory-style appliances whose freezers don?t function. My garbage disposal frequently breaks down, and when the air conditioning is working it is often weak. There is a construction site outside my window, so it is impossible to sleep past 7 a.m. Monday through Friday. The noise on that side of the building is significant, and has been going on for nearly a year now. There are mild problems with roaches, but nothing that a few traps can?t basically solve. The elevator service is poor - at certain hours early in the morning the elevators do not seem to be running at all. My kitchen sink does not produce cold water; options are hot and warm.



On the upside, the location is fantastic, in a safe and attractive neighborhood within walking distance of the metro. The staff are usually helpful and adequately competent. Maintenance will always respond by the following day. I?ve never had any problems with noises from neighboring apartments. Despite the steep rent increases, last time I checked the rent compared favorably to other apartments in the vicinity, depressing as that fact is.
