I have read all the previous reviews and I agree with the majority of the complaints. I have known the Riverdale/Bladensburg area all my life and Mattapony as it used to be called had never been a good neighborhood. A few years ago I noticed that they were remodeling the community and it honestly looked quite nice. In August of 2002, my roommate split on me so as a last resort I decided to give Autumn Woods a try. When I did the inital walk through I was pleasantly surprised although the leasing agent showed me a 2 bedroom and had no knowledge of the amenities of the one bedroom which I was interested in.When I signed the lease for Phase 2, I was supposed to move in the building straight across from the rental office which had a private balcony. One week before my move in date, I was notified by the rental office that the building would not be ready for two weeks due to electrical problems. In the meantime I was put in a temporary apt in building 5006. The inside of the apt was fine, but the surrounding were hideous! Trash was everywhere, instead of in the huge dumpster that was steps from the building. My neighbor would play her radio so loud that my ceiling would shake! Twice I had to knock or should I say bang because she could not even hear me at the door, the rental office did nothing. After,a month which was only supposed to be two weeks I was transferred to the 5101. This building seemed to be much quiter than the previous and the layout is extremely niced if you dont count the unleveled floors.My dining area has a mini hill and my kitchen has a slanted ramp which you can clearly feel when walking. I have the same problem in the hall and bathroom. I never complained about this because I felt it would cause too much of an inconveinance to me and knowing what I know now my complaints would have went on deaf ears anyway.
My Complaints:
my thermostat has been broke since the first day i used it, i had called numerous times and finally someone came to replace it they said but i have placed two calls since then and it still is not working properly causing my electric bill to be sky high every other month

the chain on my door broke and it took numerous calls and two weeks for them to come and replace the chain which took all of three minutes and then leaving my lights on and blinds open all days causing my apt to feel like a sauna because of course my thermostat was still broke

dec 02, my car was in towed in a lot which they claim is a no towing lot although i was parked in a fire zone because of the parking lot being completely covered in ice with no salt,sand or plows in sight
throughout the whole winter they never salted the lot nor the stairs while a drain gushed water down the building into the parking lot causing the lot to become a ice skaters dream
my neighbor fell down the stairs which has no handrail breaking his ankle and it is now oct 03 still no handrail

i have had 9 ANNUAL inspections this year and have not been given a reason as to what is being inspected yet,the eighth time we werent even notified of the inspection. the last time i called i was told they have the right to inspect the apartments whenever they please

also a year after i paid my intial security deposit i was asked to sign papers stating that i did not pay a 300 deposit which is what my lease states but that i only paid 99 and the burden of proof lays on me to prove otherwise because they are too busy and its not the bookkeepers job to locate the copy of my receipt

this last one takes the cake: a guy was shot at the carryout at the corner where everyone hangs out at and ran into me coming home from work so he decides he wants to hide in my apt.i had a shoving match with him to keep him out of my apt.thank the Lord no one saw him else it might have been two of us with a bullet

My overall experience has been less than a pleasant one and I am very upset with myself that I did not look elsewhere when it was time to renew my lease two ago.
