My overall experience was pleasant, but I also didn't have very high expectations since I knew the area isn't the best. If you have the means, I strongly urge you to look elsewhere. If you work in the area and don't mind a longer commute, I would also look elsewhere.
If you want to move here, you'd be better off getting an upper level apartment. If you have upstairs neighbors, you will be able to hear them walk (i.e., stomp) all over the apartment. You will sometimes be able to hear them talk (though, strangely enough, I never heard my next door neighbors). When I say you get what you pay for, that takes into account the potential behavior of your neighbors. Don't expect people to care that their loud music resonates in every corner of your apartment. Don't expect them to care that you work and/or study and therefore need to sleep at night (I could hear my upstairs neighbors' intimate moments, which lasted ALL THROUGH THE NIGHT). Perhaps earplugs will be helpful for you, but they certainly did very little for me. Communication with my neighbors and with resident services didn't help either.
I never had problems with maintenance. They always arrived quickly and took care of things adequately. I did sometimes have to deal with pests, which I expected (this is a shared living space), but if you keep your place clean, that will have a tremendous effect. Parking could be a problem if I came home late at night. I never had issues with my car, but I also never left any valuables in it, and I had an alarm. I did sometimes hear gunshots, but they never were associated with this complex (as far as I know).

Things were just ok: not terrible, but not great either (Perhaps I have a high tolerance level'). But I would not move back in.
