Wow That is all I can politely say when it comes to describing Meridian at Bowie. First and foremost, I plead that those of you who are reading the reviews and contemplating moving into this complex to remember one thing - when it comes to renting, it is a business! I compare the Meridian personnel to a used-care salesman; they will tell you what you want to hear, but as soon as you sign on the signature line and commit yourself to a 12-month lease, everything they said changes and you are stuck with a lemon.
I cannot wait for my lease to be over at Meridian. As explained below, I have numerous reasons to break my lease but do not feel like dealing with the drama and the potential forfeit of my deposit. When I moved in, I was greeted by extremely nice office staff. I believed that I was moving into a quality apartment; heck, my rent was high enough for me to believe such. However, each week I am reminded of how truly and disgustingly pathetic this place is. Want some reasons here you go:
1) Meridian is one of the few apartment complexs that violates the "warrant of habitability" and allows residents to smoke in their apartments. I am greeted to stale smoke-filled air everything time I come home. Thanks to my upstairs chain smokers, my clothes and hair constantly smell like stale smoke.
2) Meridian never provides the Prince Georges County law of 24-hour notice. The law, and the common operational procedures of ANY apartment complex, is to inform the tenant 24 hours in advance of any entry into the apartment. I have NEVER received any notice. I find out that my apartment has been entered because lights are left on or my personal belongings have been moved. In addition, in my opinion, maintenance serves as nothing more than an after jail work program. I have literally had to physically prevent a maintenance worker from entering my apartment unauthorized. He used my door as a drum set, pounding like a crackhead, and when I opened the door, he didn't say one word and tried to push past me into the apartment. He wasn't EVEN wearing a maintenance uniform! Unbelievable!
3) Crime! You want you car broken into' Come here! Need some recreational drugs, in my opinion, come on over! Sure there are police officers that live here for HALF the rent that we are paying, but they could care LESS about the crime. Oh, and criminal activity, such as robberies and assaults are NOT reported by office management. They tend to look the other way. So, if you do come to look at an apartment, ask the staff WHY they will not show apartments after dark and why the fitness center is CLOSED at night......hummmmmm.
4) The office staff refuses to live at Meridian of Bowie. Need I say anymore'
5) Trash, parking, noise, rude people....the list goes on and on. Oh, the pool is always closed...yet you pay what, nearly a $400 amenity fee for a pool and fitness center you can't use'
6) The gate. Ahhhh, the front gate that is suppose to prevent unauthorized individuals from entering the complex. Excuse me while I laugh.....ok um, the gate is usually broken and if not, people without access just sit in front of it and wait for you to come in.
7) Rude little kids! Playing football in the parking lot and hitting your car with a football, sitting on cars, swinging their keys at cars, spitting on cars; heck, trying to spit on you when you are walking past the stairs! Don't bother saying anything to these future delinquents! They will tell you off and threaten to do something to your vehicle. Unfortunately, the law prevents us from touching anyone under the age of 18, however tempting it may be. Just know that these little brats with NO parential control are quite content with being destructive and rude.
