Can you handle the truth and the whole truth'''

I have lived here for two years and other apt communities in the area. Comparatively, Woods is above average for this area, BUT that doesn't discount the fact that there are some MAJOR problems to consider and thus I have chosen to move on. At first the good outweighed the bad but over time it's been the opposite. Like,
1) Don't plan on having any visitors because there are only 2 visitor parking spots per building usually taken by residents and your car WILL GET TOWED if you are not in one of the two and they are not adequately labeled. Nevermind that there is plenty of unused resident parking. The alternative is to have your guests park outside the gate and walk, in which case if you live deep in the woods it can be a hike as well as a constant look over your shoulder because it's poorly lit in the apt community and not the best of neighborhoods. (And as a visitor, you're worried about your car on the street)
2) Management office is very slow to respond to maintenance calls. I think the manager is ok but the other workers that you have to go through just have NO CLUE WHATSOEVER, like talking to 2yr olds. There is no sense of caring that you pay an enormous rent every month and you have to repeatedly call in requests and are inconvenienced by ignorant workers who don't know ANYTHING. I still have unresolved maintenance issues from literally 9mos. ago! I've decided it's better to live with them rather than try going through the office for help for the umpteenth time. In all fairness, the manager does present a good attitude.
3)Maintenance and grounds upkeep are not good, they are sometimes slow to clean up...trash cans sometimes overflow and then they issue warnings that anyone left putting trash near, and not IN the can will be evicted....where else does the trash go when proper removal has not been done and all the cans are overflowing
3) THE INSULATION SUCKS! Fortunately I live on the top level so Im spared BUT NOT MUCH, I can hear my downstairs neighbors so clearly that when he plays music I can tell what the lyrics are, and where there are cesuras, which gives me little hope for my own privacy. (And his music is not excessively loud, sometimes I can hear his conversations too)What do you do when you just don't feel like singing along' Earplugs aren't included when they give you your keys. However, the neighborhood itself is quiet.
4)there are a lot of kids in the complex, but to be fair, for the most part they are very ruly and not little urchins...except in the mornings when waiting for the school bus. There are about 40 kids, (not an exaggeration) every a.m. waiting to be picked up by the schoolbus at the only entrance/exit, and it's not at all safe for them to be standing there esp. younger/smaller kids(be careful not to hit one of them or lose your temper when they snowball your car as you're passing).
The not so bad things'''
1)Although I have never seen any officers (security or police) patroling the neighborhood nor have I ever heard of such at the Woods, I have never had any criminal problems occur, and my car has never been stolen, broken into, or vandalized (which it did when I had been living in another property in the area). The woods is just not very well lit at night esp. parking areas.
2)A lot of talk of bugs, I have never had any major problems with bugs, when I first moved here next to the family that would leave their trash in the hall, I found an odd roach or two but since they moved out....NO PROBLEM WHATSOEVER.
The things I like about my apartment' The space...Structurally and aesthetically, for a one bedroom I have a good amount of space, a huge bedroom and walk-in closet and large balcony. I don't however have a dishwasher, which almost prevented me from renting. The bathroom is very small and outdated and the faux wall partition took some getting used to. One thing that attracted me initially was the floor to ceiling bedroom window, which they quickly boarded up once I moved in....so I've basically been soured since then. I would say if you have to live in this area and you can afford to shell out the cash Woods at Addison is one of your best bets but I wouldn't make it home for more than a year. My overall advice save that money and invest in a house!
