There was a fire at Highland House last week due to a senior who fell asleep while smoking. Unfortunately, only a temporary security guard was on call -- none of the management responded for at least 20-30 minutes. As a resident, the evacualtion of the building was an absolute mess. The security system locks on the doors seized up and firefighters could not get in the building. Additionally, there were so many seniors who were unable to evacuate on tehir own. It was clear that there was little planning for such an emergency. Residents received a notice reminding them to be careful when they somke -- great idea!

I am a resident here also, and what this tenant wrote is absolutely wrong. From what I saw all maintenance personal and management responded. This fool does not realize that maybe management and maintenance people live offsite. Have you heard of TRAFFIC! But of course maintenance and management get the blame even if it's terrible accident. That a shame that some people can be such idiots. From what I saw the Highland house personal did an excellent job.
