Highland House Apartments

Resident for 5 years. From: scooby76 Date posted: 3/20/2007 Years at this apartment: 2002 - 2007   The apartment building and local area has changed A LOT since 2002. In 2002, it was mostly a retirement community. There was extensive construction on the building and surrounding neighborhood between 2003-2004 (with associated noise, limited parking, and no use of the balcony). Now: Neighborhood is great / high-end. Most construction completed - nearby retirement shopping center razed in 2003 -> high end stores (i.e. Cartier / Barneys) and Giant supermarket replaced it. 2 blocks to Metro station. 3 blocks to even more shopping / movies / etc. Quiet after about 9pm. My 1BR apartment hasn't had any problems with pests. Walls are ok - can sometimes hear the neighbor's tv if their volume is pumped up. Parking: Minimal street parking in the immediate area. Garage parking for $80/month which I have - no problems getting a spot. Construction in parking garage finished in 2006. Noise: Minimal (now). see above. Grounds: Decent landscaping. Maintenance: Quick response to most issues. Only 4 out of 5: when the room below mine flooded in 2002, they busted down my bathroom wall to access a pipe, did quickly fixed up the wall afterward but didn't clean up the attendant mess very well. In 2005 during construction on the building's exterior, they *knocked a hole* in my bedroom - quickly fixed it up within hours but once again, left a small mess behind. Staff: Daytime staff are excellent 5/5. Other times are variable. Overall, I'd rate the *current* building / staff / area as 4.5 although there were times from 2002-2006 where I might have rated it 2-4. Originally from Manhattan, NYC so the price is actually very reasonable.
