I have been here for three months. Here's my review:
THE GOOD
* Awesome location
- a block and a half from the Friendship Heights Metro
- Grocery store within easy walking distance (Giant)
- lots of stores nearby: Linens & Things, Filene's Basement, Gap, Louis Vuitton, etc.
* Very clean apartments. They repainted and recarpeted my apt before I moved in. I've never seen any trash in the hall.
* Amenities: Rooftop pool in the summer. Gym in the basement (smallish, but adequate). 24-hr front desk. Walk-in closet.
* Quick response to problems. Never had to wait more than 24hrs for an issue to be resolved.
* Floor to ceiling windows. I like a lot of light. Luckily, the air-conditioning works and it stays cool, too!
* Nice community. Police patrol often. Seems safe.
* Very quiet. I don't have very noisy neighbors and the walls seem pretty thick. There is outside traffic noise, but I guess that's city living. The double-paned windows do help a bit.
THE NOT-SO-GOOD
* Security at front door not very tight. Pretty much anyone can get in, even after hours as no one stops you following someone in. No patrols/guards and I don't think anyone really monitors the video feed closely.
* Lots of repairs were needed when I moved in: a broken closet light, broken dishwasher, broken garbage disposal, dirty toilet water. All were taken care of promptly, though. Appliances are basic, slightly older models. Gas oven/stove. No stainless steel, granite countertops, etc.
* Older residents. While there are many younger (20s/30s) couples, there are still quite a few elderly people living in this building. One pair of older women, I have noticed, seem to be permanently ensconced in the lobby chairs near the elevator. Not as many as I saw at the Irene, but still be aware that this building does seem to still cater to this clientele.
* No washer/dryer in units. There are two washers and dryers on every floor, however. The kind that take a rechargeable card.
* The high price - last I checked the studios are $1325, the efficiencies $1425, one bedrooms $1875-1975 and two bedrooms $3100. They do offer specials occasionally - my efficiency is $1300 with a 13-month contract. There are minimum income requirements (starting at $52,000/yr).
* Units are a bit on the smallish side. You're pretty much paying for the location.
* Parking is $100/mo. Hard to find visitor parking during the weekend.
Overall, I definitely do not regret moving here. It is a great, clean, quiet place to live and I am totally satisfied with the apartment!

Although it's expensive, I would consider renting here based on the location.

So, OP...you consider older, elderly tenants "not so good"? Nice going, -------.
